Looking to Coach PR for leadership

It may not be fair to ask a young first year coach to become a leader in our athletic department, but we need somebody to change the culture in our major sports. Losing in football and basketball has become a habit, and though wrestling is far from a losing program, we've fallen into a habit of underperforming when we're in a position to do something big. We're in a rut and given the last few years it's hard for ISU fans not to expect the worst to happen, and it usually does. PR is charismatic, smart, and apparently this is his dream job since he began pursuing it several years ago, so I believe he will stay as long as he can. He doesn't need to win a lot of games his first few years, especially given the schedule in years 2 and 3. But if he can put a well organized, smart, high energy product on the field that gives us a chance to win, it will do wonders for the psyche of many Clone fans, at least myself. I need some hope to get us out of this rut and I think PR is the guy that can give it to us.

Possibly hire Fred Hoiberg as AD so we can get some tradition in here

The only "leader" that counts is the coach for that individual sport. Christy Johnson doesn't seemed to be bothered by this losing culture you speak about. Bill Fennelly either.
I have high hopes for Rhoads also, but he won't change the leadership styles of GMac and Sanderson.

I was referring to our major sports. I should have considered ISU women's basketball in that too, though women's sports don't bring much national recognition to a university unless it's Pat Summit at Tennessee. It may not be politically correct to say that, but I think it's the truth.

I totally agree with you on this. But those same people that are throwing GMac under the bus now will throw PR under if he doesn't win 7 games in year 3. Which is total BS in my opinion.

I think we need Coach PR to come knock some heads amongst the fans and explain that constant ******** != being a fan. The whole "culture of losing" thing is just pure BS.

I think most Clone fans realize that both our conference and non conference football schedules will be absolutely brutal in years 2 and 3. I wish we could do something about it because Ohio State wouldn't do well with that schedule. I don't think Gmac has had the same situation, especially in our non-conference schedules. I'm not one that's been bashing GMac, though I can see why many people are dissappointed we continue to be near the cellar in year 3.

bawbie- I agree PR needs to knock some heads to change things around here. I think most coaches would tell you that losing can become a habit just like winning. But that certainly doesn't mean the fans should expect it and that we can't win at ISU. I've got high hopes for PR to help change things at ISU, including the attitude.

After Gene left and before JP came Mac was the face and leader of the athletic dept. He helped storm the BDVD years. While we dont need that out of PR, there still are things he can do to be a leader of the athletic dept.

Tom Osborne couldn't help Nebraska basketball; same for Joe Paterno. Bob Knight couldn't help Indiana football; same for Coach K.
Individual coaches are their own program's leaders - the AD has to make sure he has the right coaches in place.

Agree about the individual coaches having to get the job done in their respective sports, but a lift in football from PR would do wonders for my overall psyche about ISU athletics.
