I think Taylor Martin is the juco DE we signed who will join the team this summer.

Re: Just got back from Saturday practice

Can one of you guys that have been to practice comment on what you saw as far as red zone performance? The cyclones.com article about the first scrimmage has a quote from PR saying he thought the offense performed well today in the red zone getting across the goal line.

Can anyone say that we looked better there the last few years, or is it a result of the new system? Are the O players making the plays or is the D blowing their assignments? Really any insight anybody who has been there can give would be appreciated, this is an area I'm really hoping might improve with the new Offense.

I thought the offense performed pretty well in the red zone today, although I think I remember a turnover at one point. The new offense increases the space that our QB and tailbacks have to work with, and it makes us less predictable. I really feel like that's going to make us much more effective in the red zone this year.

I hope you are right. What concerns me most is that the red zone offense looked good against what was probably the worst red zone defense in the country.

I don't care I'll take the hope for now and hope the D can improve too. A good point that it's not like they're scoring against a top tier D though.

I was very impressed the Bo Williams and our QB's, Tiller has a ways to go yet, but AA looked very good.
A friend was at same practice and said the exact same things about O-line and D-line. He said Bo looked very impressive, Leonard Johnson owned the wr's and our TE's looked good in the passing game. He also said Hermann was a pretty cool guy. Chewin', cussin' and not accepting lack of effort...apparently Sed Johnson doesn't always go hard and apparently when he does he's at a different level than the other guys out there (except LJ). Kind of disappointing news about OL, DL, LB's and safeties...but I don't know what else I expected.

Apparently we were at different practices. Today was the 8th practice overall, 6th with pads. I thought the OL looked pretty good. They closed the deal in the red zone. The RB's need to hit the right holes. I thought Austin and Tiller both looked pretty good. they simply need time to learn the system and get the timing put together. Junior day today, lots of bodies around.

Does anyone know what was wrong with Jones and Darks. Jones didn't look like he was running 100% and i never once saw Darks?

Darks is a little banged up. No idea with Houston.

That'll help when we run the option on the goal line with time running out.

Both lines are learing new fundamentals and it will take them a while to get that down. They are being asked to do stuff they are not used to doing, and it will take time for it to be second nature to them.

Darks changed his number from last year. Maybe that's why you never saw him. He went from 80 to a single digit, I think, but I can't remember what his new number is.
