Just got back from Saturday practice

They spent most of the practice scrimmaging. I always have a hard time knowing what to think after watching a scrimmage - I always wonder did one side of the ball do great, or did the other side do bad? Anyway, I was encouraged by what I saw.

Arnaud and Tiller both looked good. ARob and Schwartz were impressive too. Bo did some nice things, but put the ball on the ground once. While our number of rushes will likely go down, I can't help but think our average yards per carry will definately go up because this offense creates much more space for the ball carriers to run in.

The defense was better than I expected, especially the tackling. That's clearly a point of emphasis this spring. The D even got a few sacks, although it was touch football when it came to tackling the QB (that's where I wasn't sure if it was great play by the D or someone on the Oline messing up).

Overall, I thought it was very encouraging, but I'm not exactly an expert.

Bueker only finished with one incompletion....

The best one was Arnaud's TD run where Rhoads got on the D about goin to the whistle.

I will say thank God the season doesn't start today. There's still a ton of rust on offense especially.

I was also at the scrimmage and the practice on Friday. I was unimpressed by our offensive and defensive lines. Our d-line was small and not quick at all and our o-line was very big and slow and also lacked proper fundamentals I would expect a D-1 lineman to have. I was very impressed the Bo Williams and our QB's, Tiller has a ways to go yet, but AA looked very good.

I thought Schwartz deserved to be ranked ahead of Bo at this point. Schwartz is a very tough 'run it down your throat runner' who surprised me with his change of direction speed.

I'm not exactly an expert at line play, but I didn't think either line looked too bad this afternoon.

I just guess I expected more from a unit, o-line, that returned several guys with lots of snaps under their belt. D-line scares me.

Any chance we'll bring in any JUCO Dline before the fall yet?

I can't answer that question, I would hope the coaching staff sees this as a weakness and finds a couple guys somewhere.

There are no "open" practices. Gridiron Club members are allowed to attend with prior approval from the football office.

I wouldn't be too excited if there was a JUCO DL that comes in for that fall and hasn't already committed somewhere.

I think you'll see two more juco additions to the defense, but neither will be on the d line.

I guess some people forget it's SPRING! Cut them some slack, they are just getting back into the swing of things.

Don't we have some guys that are not with the team yet? I thought we signed a couple of D-linemen with this class. I know that freshmen typically don't come in and play, but who knows we may get a gem.
