Cael is the one that raises red flags. Jeremy's statement is 100% spot on. And I agree with jer -- I think we will find that Cael was telling the truth that the money is nowhere near what people are speculating.
Agree. And I would hope Prez Geoffrey will do/has done a confidential exit interview with Cael to get to the bottom of things...
Cael said he didn't leave for money... unless he is flat out lying. I dont see Cael to be the liar type.
Chizik chose Auburn over Iowa State. Not a tough football decision.
Tim Floyd left us for a chance at the Chicago Bulls.
All of those coaches seem to have left for good reasons. They all ended up making more money, but all those jobs have a lot more status than coaching at Iowa State (which a majority of the US has no idea what and where it is)
I guess the gymnastics coach left due to lack of funds available to her program.
If he didnt leave for money then why would he leave? 500000 thousand is a good reason to leave. They all lie about not leaving for money his dream job was iowa state, he left for the money.
All coaches have demonstrated they are prostitutes --- they are just haggling over price. A 25% increase would make me really consider changing jobs and towns... Doubling would make it a no-brainer.

Exactly right. The BS about the talent in PA is just that, BS. If it is true that there is an overwhelming amount of talent in PA (and appears that it is)then that makes recruiting pretty easy doesn't it? You could limit your travel to two states, Iowa and PA. Also, the top recruits from PA don't seem particularly reluctant to leave their home state. They don't all wrestle for Penn or PSU and PSU is not the current NC.
If you build it they will come. Cael won't be here to finish building it because he got more money elsewhere. I challenge anyone to submit a reason that doesn't have to do with the (phony) recruiting argument or money.

As are the programs that hire them. Loyalty is a two way street. Not saying that the loyalty is lacking at ISU, but the general trend among programs is to fire coaches as soon as they have a couple bad seasons.
I think that when PSU announces the new salary, we will see that Cael didn't leave for his new paycheck. He left for the facilities and the budget available to him.
This is why he didn't give JP a chance to match his salary. He already knew that ISU could not compete with the facilities and recourses that PSU was offering.
Salary had nothing to do with it. Cael wants to win. PSU will give him what it takes, ISU couldn't.

Money is only part of it. We have lost to programs in football and basketball that have far less money than us over the past few years. Chiz was well paid and we paid his coordinators at a very high level and what did that get us? There are plenty of BCS football coaches and d-1 basketball coaches that don't make a million a year but have been having much more success than us.
