Re: Chizik's Cold Blood can't take Iowa Winters
i thought it was ironic in the article he's already setting the expectations low and then if he gets 7-8 wins he will be praised as doing a great job......
Tubberville got the shaft and if Chizik thought he was taking a better position, he might be right, but, he should consider at these top tier schools you get fired for 8 wins!!!!!!
At isu 8 wins puts you in hall of fame/walk on water status!!!!!

Re: Chizik's Cold Blood can't take Iowa Winters
I wish him the best at Auburn. It can only help us in the long run to have coaches think that going to ISU isn't the end of the world. We may be able to pull in higher quality assistants and head coaches as long as they can see others have come here and been able to move on to higher level programs and be successful. I personally feel that we are a better team today than we were when he first got here. I was also disappointed with some of the game coaching, but I do believe that the talent level has improved. I am also happy with our replacement and hope that he is able to continue the upgrading of talent on the team. Based on the resumes, it appears that he has brought in some pretty talented assistant coaches. If you compare it to Iowa and the Hayden Fry years, the quality of assistant coaches he put togehter in the early years are what made Iowa sussessful. As they started to leave for their own head coaching jobs, his replacements haven't had anywhere near the success as the original staff. So I hope that poeple are able to come to ISU and find success elsewhere if they choose to leave. It will only help to spread in the coaching community that coming to ISU can be a springboard to something bigger and better. And who knows, maybe someday we will actually be thought of as being a place that many coaches would love to get to.

The second thing I ask is, how good is he when it comes to coaching football? The third thing I ask - and it's not necessarily in this order - is can he and will he get his hands dirty, and walk into a school and say, 'Tell me who your best player is,' and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's going to get him? I have to hire a guy who has those three qualities. And in this day and age -- there's too many good players, there's too many good coaches and teams out there -- you cannot afford to go 1-3. You can't have a guy who can recruit, but can't coach. You can't have a guy who can coach, but can't recruit. And you dang sure don't want a guy you don't want your son around."
Where was this line of thinking when he was here? I'd chalk that up to lessons learned at ISU. He definitely didn't abide by those rules when he came to Ames.

He apparently didn't realize when he took the job that in Iowa during the winter it gets cold?

Maybe he can float to Texas or Tampa Bay in a couple of years.

I thought it interesting that his comments about his coaches, the starting quarterback...we're going to play through every minute of the game.....this offensive scheme is unique(see horrible)....etc.... sounded familiar to the same stuff he spouted when he walked into Hilton.....
Good riddance....hopefully the Auburn fans will enjoy him...

A chimpanzee on crack should do better this "year 3" than last year.
Let's just watch and see how he does at Auburn with "superior talent" and the "best coaches in the country, period!" while spouting "Now don't expect any miracles". According to The Chiz-o-matic: It slices, it dices for only $14.99 and guaranteed or your money, well, er, not really. I won't tell you I told you so, I promise! -
Re: Chizik's Cold Blood can't take Iowa Winters
I'll bet the conversation went more like this. I'm going to get fired after next year and I will have no options but dcoordinator jobs the rest of my career. I can't believe this idiot from Auburn is going to offer me this job.
His wife, "Tell him we'll take it before he wisens up."
I admit that I laugh when I read quotes about people praying and yet they don't have the time to get to know their players beyond a name on the roster.
He reminds me of Alford the more I read his quotes. The guy did a horrible job at ISU and leaving early for Auburn was a great deal for everyone. It couldn't have worked out any better for ISU with the exception of paying the former assistant coaches.

gc is gone, he dumped on ISU. There is no reason to rehash this mess. We are way better off than if he stayed and all of us should send someone at Auburn a card to thank them. End of story.

Re: Chizik's Cold Blood can't take Iowa Winters
I'm glad he's not here any more. He just doesn't fit the Iowa mold. Chizik can't take the cold, meanwhile PR is out walking beans or baling hay. Now that's an Iowan.
