I will be the first to tell you that "towel waiver" was never really given a fair chance to succeed. Joe was one of my students when I was a TA for ISU last year, and I often heard about how Chizik & Co. was giving him the shaft. Just my $0.02.
that is pretty shocking for a reserve to say. I have never heard someone get put in a reserve role and blame it on the coaches. In my experience they all say, "I don't start because I am not good enough."

If the towel waver was recruited by DMac, he probably wasn't given a fair shake. that is coming from someone who would know.

Roger that! I am sure Chizik only put favorites on the field not the best player. That is pretty much how college and professional coaches run their teams.

This applies to the majority of cases, but Chizik might have very well have fallen outside the norm. It's hard to deny the existence of the alleged doghouse that might have influenced playing time for at least 4 or 5 positions.
There also appeared to be a push to get as many freshmen on the field as possible, often at the expense of more experienced players. Chizik & company then in turn touted the freshmen playing time on the recruiting trail - both while still at ISU as well as after he arrived at Auburn. It may not have been a bad strategy for long term success, but it did seem to dump on some of the upperclassmen so the towel waver supporters might have a valid point.

Exactly..

Joe wasn't the only one, I know that. One he saw the writing on the wall, he then decided to focus on his academics. Hes in grad school at ISU now, and doing quite well. Still one of the biggest ISU fans ever.
You gotta give him props though, even if he couldn't help the team on the field, he made damn sure to grab that towel and waive it til his arm fell off.
