Iowa State is #3 in the country!
I know this isn't a good thing, but it just puts the national media's outlook for Iowa State in perspective. College Football: 2009 Preseason Rankings | Bleacher Report -

Probably wouldn't put much stock into what appears to be a blog.
41-51 Record in CF Mafia. The most games played and wins by any player in Cyclone Fanatic History. Yes, I'm a nerd. -

Chizzledick leaving WILL be a good thing for ISU. No substance and the point he makes a majority of people (ISU and non-ISU alike) say the exact opposite.
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -

That being said, I wouldnt put ISU that high on that list.

The coordinators are always left out of the equation comparing The Chiz to CPR. There is no way to compare head coaching ability between the two, but at the coordinator positions we have upgraded considerably. Whether it's enough to let us flirt with a bowl game I can't say, but the coach vs. coach debate is pointless until each has 5 seasons under their belt.

Half way through the season GC decided he didn't want to be at ISU anymore. There is nothing worse than have a coach or player that doesn't what to be at your school anymore.

Atleast we have Army on our schedule!

Re: Iowa State is #3 in the country!
I have yet to see how Chizik leaving is a bad thing for ISU. IMO we are upgrading at HC and the overall staff. We get a coach who isn't going to bolt at the first sign of success. Plus, we really haven't experienced the mass turnover that usually comes with coaching changes. The last recruiting class probably isn't as good as it would have been, but it's not a huge drop off.

Re: Iowa State is #3 in the country!
I would recommend as Cyclone fans that we read no pre-season college football preview magazines. We will be predicted to finish dead last every year from now until we can prove otherwise on the football field. That’s just the way it is. No point in getting upset about it. All that said; I think we are going to surprise people. Even with the coaching change we didn’t lose a lot of players and we have obtained a BIG-TIME upgrade in assistant coaching talent. The future is bright for Iowa State Football! -

My memory isn't what is used to be, but I thought Johnny Majors left us for Pitt. I realize he ended up at Tennessee, but I didn't think he left us for them.

Re: Iowa State is #3 in the country!
Any way any person wants to cut it, Chizik leaving is not good for isu....now if he had left amide a winning streak of say 3 games, thats different.....but him bailing on such a young team thats about to turn the corner is not good.....
That said, i still feel had Chizik stayed at ISU and lured Gus here and who knows who he would have targeted as a defensive coordinator, we may be all referencing him differently. The fact he built everything about his ability to turn the program around will be revealed this fall.
Personally, i think we have the players to surprise a lot of teams. I don't want to put it all on the coaches but, imo, the ISU team i saw play last fall was the worst prepared team i watched regardless of team or division. It was pathetic. I think there was enough of a philosophical difference between bolt and chizik that the players heard two different chiefs telling them how to do something. And the defensive schemes appeared at least that they could care less about stopping someone and instead played very passive on the basis that the offensive team would not execute....well execute they did!!!!
Wally's WackAttack are going to change some peoples opinions of our defense this fall.....mark that down.....not saying a top 30 defense, but, i will say that we will be in the top 60 defenses as compared to our rating of 112 last year!!!!
Back to this poll, ironic only three teams from BCS conferences are listed, it would be easy to pick out teams that would suggest such bad teams....
That blog will bear evidence of how poorly everyone thought ISU's season would go, similar to how me and many others thought that Iowa's running game would suck last year.....
I FAILed last year just like this blog!!!!!!!!

Re: Iowa State is #3 in the country!
That's AWFULLY high to put us ont hat list... I would say we're honorable mention... but not top ten... there are 10 much worse programs in the nation than us... or progams that are in major disarray

Re: Iowa State is #3 in the country!
When we start getting some defensive tackles who were as strong and driven like Jordan Carstens, Nick Leaders, Brent Curvey. We will be more successful. The DT imo is the most important position on a defense!
