Are you a defensive back - you're doing a lot of back-pedaling.

I'll concede that our defense is awful and none of us know what to expect from our new coaching staff, but ISU beat Iowa at home under those exact same conditions in 2007.
All I'm saying is that home field matters. Oddsmakers in Vegas, automatically assign 3 points to the home team in college fb just for playing at home. Plus, if we look at the recent history of this rivalry, the home team has won every game since '04. If we're going purely by talent, yes, Iowa should win. But as we all know, there's a lot more to this game than just straight up talent.

That swiss cheese defense you're talking about was able to hold Iowa to 10 points last fall if I remember.

(Note: Iowa's D did have a little to do with our ineptitude in the 3rd quarter as well, but we still should have walked out of that quarter with more than 3 points.)

I still don't know what took Ferentz and Co. so long to make that switch. All I had to see after his 2007 performance was that competition in the spring game last year and when Stanzi looked better then I wouldn't have given Jake that long of a leash.

But it was also with the best RB in the nation!

Oh I agree Iowa wins that game, but he's trying to make fun of a defense that held Iowa's offense to 10 points.

Yeah, it is kind of funny that the fewest points we gave up all year was to Iowa. Hell, even South Dakota St. managed to put up 17 points on our defense, even though that last TD was garbarge.

I'm pretty sure both played that day.

But as we all know, there's a lot more to this game than just straight up talent. I agree. Talent levels only make a difference when the kids with the talent perform to the best of their ability. Iowa State always comes into that game with a chip on their shoulder and plays above and beyond their talent level. Iowa on the other hand thinks they can just show up, execute poorly, and that the name on the front of their jersey will strike fear into the hearts of the Cyclones and that they will just roll over and play dead. This more then anything has been the key factor in the game. This isn't the 80's and early 90's anymore. Hayden Fry is gone. Iowa State goes into that game knowing that they can win against Iowa and that is a big difference when you compare the last 11 years to the previous 15. Iowa isn't blowing out Iowa State anymore. Those days are over.
