This really isn't as strange as it may sound. Pelini never signed a contract at Nebraska until months after he was hired. If what you read in the Omaha and Lincoln papers was accurate, he and Osborne had talked generalities but nothing even close to specific with regards to money. Pelini said from day one that money was not an issue and there weren't any negotiations. Osborne wanted Pelini and Pelini wanted Nebraska and they worked out the details when time allowed it. Wouldn't it be nice if all coaches contracts went that smoothly. As it turned out, based on what other coaches make, Pelini (with a 9-4 record) was probably one of the most underpaid coaches in the country last year.

    Wasn't Solich fired with a 9-3 record?
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

$100,000 for each championship game win.
I think if he pulls that off he should get a whole lot more money

Dont worry, if he were to do that here, he'd get a boat load of money... but it would be from some other bigtime school

I think they sign an agreement when they get hired. It does take time to get the fine details worked out. Lawyers need their payday also. McD worked sometime without one. It is not that uncommon to work without one.
