Coaching from last year

I'm getting sick of reading and watching football previews simply look at our roster and last year's record and assume that we won't win more than 3 games without considering the way we lost games last year. Disregarding the fact that our coaches last year completely ignored teaching fundamentals (like tackling), I think we lost 2 games (Kansas and Colorado) outright due to bad coaching and there were at least 3 others (Iowa, UNLV, and A&M) where we would have been in good (better?) positions to win if it wasn't for the coaches.

Am I being totally delusional in thinking this? Are there more examples of poor coaching costing us games or chances to win games?

Yep, completely delusional. Until we give the media something worth respecting, don't expect respect.

There is no point to even get worked up about it. Iowa State football is not even a blip on the National map. With wins comes respect. Until that, the poor outlook that the media gives us will continue.

who cares what the media thinks. its more fun to prove them wrong when we turn it around anyways.

Ok, I realize I'm naive to think that sports journalists would actually do some work and try to find out why we lost so many games last year when talking about how we will do next year. I'm not stupid enough to think we should be getting national attention despite our recent records.

The point of my post was more about how last season would have been different with different coaches. The bit about the previews was simply how I got to thinking about this.

All coaches make mistakes, and some of GC were glaring, but until I see CPR actually coach a game, I am not going to put a lot of expectations on him, his coaches or his team. The Clones were just plain bad last year. They probably should have won a couple more games, but what difference would that have made? The only people that would be feeling better about 4 win instead of 2 are fans that spend too much time on internet boards and the guy that hire GC, so he would have looked like less of a moron for hiring a head coach with 7 career wins instead of 5.

I honestly can't blame the losses of last season entirely on the coaching. is that good enough?

This was a bad team, in the second year of a rebuilding process. freshman and soph dominated. I mean, that's why they call rebuilding a process, after all. Blaming it all on departed coaches is simply scapegoating.

I hope that answers your question on my opinion....

When Chizik took over I told myself the same thing, a new coaching staff would be good for at least 2 more wins than the previous regime. Obviously, I was very wrong.

I don't know about you, but I'd feel a good amount better going into this season with 4 wins last season. At a point, it becomes more about the players than the coaching. I must just spend too much time on here, though.

"Sports journalism" is pretty much dead. It's all about ratings and marketing these days, and nobody is going to make any money actually delving into the situation at any fringe school.

And nobody holds anyone accountable for their pre-season predictions anyway. They just say "whoa we were wrong!" and move on like it's something that should be expected of "experts".

Last season is over. This season is beginning. Ignore the pundits, who know nothing but groupthink to begin with, and get ready to enjoy another year of awesome college football.

I don't think our coaches have taught tackling since before McCarney. I remember, in response to a question about tackling, Mac said he assumed they had gotten that training before they arrived at ISU.

I would go with "ignore the past", as well, and just enjoy the present.

GET BEHIND COACH RHOADS AND SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM.defense wins ballgames and coach rhoads has a very good record on the defensive side of the ball.
i think we have some new receivers on offense and some very good juco linebackers that will be fun to watch this fall.

Uhhh how many years did it take you to get come to this conclusion. This is how previews have always been done.
