That speaks volumes.

Re: Dan McCarney?????
Does nobody else remember sitting in the stands in 2006? I mean it was awful. JP's hands were tied, the fanbase had completely turned on Mac. Right or wrong that's what happened. You deal with it and move on.

It felt like they had more penalty yards than we had offensive yards, and we still lost.

I just remember the unadulterated rage in the crowd. I mean people were just flat out ****** off. Usually after successive beatdowns like that resignation sets in but there was a lot of negative energy in the crowd that season.

That speaks volumes. With all due respect, he actually got an offer from South Alabama - he refused the offer. South Alabama doesn't have a football team currently.

Re: Dan McCarney?????
I loved Mac's passion, but the time was right for a change. His mid level bowl seasons and near miss North championships came at a time when the Big 12 north was rightfully being laughed at by sports experts everywhere.
CU was in turmoil
NU had just fired a 9-3 coach
Kstate was in transition.
KU was in transition
Mizzou was in transition.
All of that and we still couldn't capitalize. We also routinely got destroyed by all of the south teams except Baylor.
Fans saw that and stopped coming and stopped donating.
It was time for a change.

Re: Dan McCarney?????
I think most Cyclone fans respect Dmac and are appreciative for what he was able to do but his last few years were very frustrating, it was just time for him to go. I'm grateful for the contributions that Mac gave us but I can honestly say I don't miss him, nor do I regret that a change was made.

Re: Dan McCarney?????
Mac was a good coach, he did a lot for our program and his success was acutally his demise. He gave our fanbase a taste of what it was like to win and when he did not hold on to that success we all got impatient, myself included. I was happy when they fired him and I think it was the right thing to do but it sucks that we had to get s*** on by Cheezedic.
CPR will bring success back to the program and maybe even win a Big XII north title.

Re: Dan McCarney?????
I've actually read all of the posts in this thread (yeah, I know, pretty dumb). There was a remark about Dan not being able to get a salary increase for his assistants from JP. I believe JP was smart enough to realize that he had a great ambassador but could find a better head coach. Thus, why invest in something you want to cease. Save the money for your new hire. Unfortunately, GC didn't learn from Dan's mistake regarding hiring a quality staff even though he was provided more money to do so. Dan will always be an icon at ISU for the way he represented the institution. While we can debate when was the right time, there probably aren't many of us that would argue that the time was coming for Dan to go.
One last thing, for all of you JP haters, when was the last time we had an AD that had the ***** to say "Put up or shut up"? The immediate predecessors were happy groveling for what they could get from the big donors while assuming the rest of us would always be there. Not JP, he challenged everyone in the Nation to do their part in helping ISU sports reach the same level of quality as its academics. Has his tenure been perfect? No. Some of you think that wins and losses are the only standard. You are lost in the 80's and beyond and, if you had it your way, you'd be happy with grasping at those wins while the ground falls out from under you. Today's student-athlete requires more and JP knows this. He's securing a solid foundation for the likes of CPR, BF, and GMac to build their programs on so that some day we can be a consistent competitor in one of the most prestigious conferences in the country. I have never been prouder to be a Cyclone!

Re: Dan McCarney?????
People constantly keep getting it messed up. He has NOT even got a COORDINATOR position since he left ISU. He has been a defensive line coach for both S. Florida and Florida. He may be respected in the coaching profession but it seems like not enough to even get a defensive coordinator position. He was turned down by Northern Illinois and Army, I think that speaks volumes about how people viewed him as a head coach.
