What was the highest ranking the Cyclones achieved during the regular season and in what year was it? Have we been ranked in the top ten at any point during the last decade? Thanks....just wondering.

prior to 2002, the highest had been #11 in 1981. That team finished 5-5-1 with Duncan, but would have probably been 10-1-1 had Bruce still been coach. A lot of talent went to waste.
I still have nightmares about that Oklahoma game. We were totally destroyed. On a sidenote... We do currently hold the worst winning percentace against a conference opponent in the country. Our winning percentage against OU is the lowest of any BCS team against a conference foe. I think we are less then 5% or something outrageous against the Sooners.
Well the pregame show before that OU game had that special about Senecca Wallace being a greek god and dressed him up in a toga, you knew the game was going to be ugly at that point.
They should have beaten Texas the next week but the Chris Simms QB sneak on fourth down where it appeared that he went backwards but still got the first down.

If I've got the correct year, that team was 5-0-1 coming out of the the tie OU in which Giffords missed four field goals - two of them chippies if I remember correctly.
Next game, Crutchfield tore his hammy and we were never the same.
I believe the year before we were 5 - 0 when Quinn had a rotator cuff injury.
Both those teams had great 1st strings, but no depth at the skill positions. Iowa fans used to call us tampons - only one string and good for only one period. That one hurt.
My exact details may not be right, but the truth is in there somewhere.
ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)
....but it's good to remember we were a top ten team only seven years ago. Go Cyclones!
I hear what you're saying, but it's kind of a stretch to call us a top ten team based on being ranked as one for 4 days and then immediately proving we weren't.
