It's a road game ISU SHOULD win, but I've seen too much playing down to the competition, and it almost seems like the more unlikely the loss is on paper, the more likely it is in real life. I should clarify that my post was not based on ANYTHING logical, but rather my gut feeling. For the record, some of the road meltdowns we've had over the years completely defy logic.
What this all comes down to, is that I'm still livid about the '07 Toledo game. My girlfriend and I were going somewhere, listening to the game, and w/an 11 pt lead and 5 minutes left, I was as nervous as a dog ******** razor blades. She goes "there is no way they can possibly lose." My response, "you obviously haven't been following ISU football for very long".
After Iowa State lost to Kent State and to Northern Iowa, my buddy was so despondent he said Iowa State was not going to win another game the rest of the year. I bet him Iowa State would win at least one game. "Tell me one team ISU will beat this year," he said. I said Toledo and bet him a steak dinner on it.
The next week, Iowa State beats Iowa so I'm feeling pretty good about the Toledo game. We all know how that turned out. How any team blows an 11 point lead with five minutes to play is beyond me.
I see where you are coming from, and I too have seen ISU lose games in weird ways.
I understand your point, but I always think an argument like this isn't valid.
A lot of factors have entered into why ISU has not had success on the road. But each year is different. For example, what ISU did two years ago -- good or bad -- has no bearing on what this year's team will do.
I would think the coaches would use lack of success on the road as a motivational tool -- "They say we can't win because we've never won on the road, but I'm telling you right now, I think those guys are full of ****. I believe you guys can go out there and win, all the assistant coaches believe you can go out there and win, and I think all of you believe you can win this game."
That's my pretty bad impression of a Knute Rockne speech, but I think you get the point.
I like the way you think.
I think those percentages are correct
We played them close at home,1st half.
They adjusted, we just expected them to be stupid for the whole game.
But with Rhodes, Herman , and Burnham maybe we can think ahead and win those close games.
Burnham, directed South Flordia to a win over them last year when I feel that had better talent than this year.
We might just pull it off this year, if we win those first 4, especially Iowa.
The biological taxonomy for hwakeye is loosely translated to "Buteo Lagopus" means ragged leg hawk.
Buteo Lag-o-pus, just for fun
Have a great day!
Edelman was good, but I just remember Jarvis getting way too many yards... At least he's a Sr. this year!
I think having that dual threat really helped Jarvis. Let's pray their new QB doesn't have a coming out party against us.
I'm actually thinking about going - crazy, right??? I thought about it too. $10 tickets, and we won't be able to watch it on TV unless FCS Whatever picks it up. I was reading something that said they have never officially sold out their stadium. Ever. It's been open for nearly 40 years.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
