Our Disappearing Class of 2007

Looking at our current roster we have only 8 players left from the 23 man recruiting class of 2007. Those 8 are Alvarez, Baysinger, A. Bell, Black, C. Franklin, Lyle, Mathis and Osemele.

Six players completed their eligibility - Bass, Bibbs, Blaes, Dedrick, Tate and Wier.

Eight players left - Bates, C. Bell, W. Franklin, Green, Kellman, Klerekoper, McMahon and Mathis.

One player, A. Sandvic was injured.

I guess it just points out the difficulty in putting together a good recruiting class during a transition year between coaches. Most of the JUCO players are gone after 2 years and a lot of the high school players just didn't have the ability to contribute at this level.

Transition years suck for any program between lack of recruits and attrition from the coaching change. Pretty much defines our season last year.

I'm certainly not sticking up for Gene but he did not have a lot of time ot throw that class together. Not surprised at all.

I'll be interested to compare this to Rhoads' class two years from now, since they both were thrown together. Coach had even less time to fill out his class, since, you know, he spent time finding quality coordinators and all

I talked to one of the players leaving.....and he basically said "I want to be a running back, and if I stay here, I'll play defense". 2 coaches, 2 different philosophies and talent definition, can't blame the kids.

I honestly thought Randy Kellman was going to be an important piece of the team. Now he plays at St Francis (I know, right) in Pennsylvania. Mathiz and Bell would have played a ton this year at LB

Out of the 8 left about 5 are starting this year and the rest should be role players.

Of the 6 graduated, 4 were basically starters. So that ups the totals to 9/14 making solid contributions.

Of the other 8 only Bates and Bell really contributed anything 2/8

I get confused with the sandvigs...was he the punt returner?

Overall that class yieled roughly 9 of 23 being starters and another 4-5 seeing spot roles. Just a hair over 50% made a noticeable contribution from this class.

Did Kellman return to St Francis? He was starting for them last year before he abruptly left the team about 4 or 5 games into the season.

We have had WAY too many classes like that or worse. I think 2003 was really bad too

Not to start a Mac fued/debate, but to only emphasize our predicament his last few years where he was rolling at about 50% of his kids making an impact. The 07 class seemingly reminds me of that.

Just looking over the 08 class, most all are still enrolled/on the team. Of course the jury will be out on the 08 class until about a year from now to see how they begin to contribute. Only Banks and Carlson were jucos(that i know of). Banks is a SR, and Carlson a JR.

heres hoping that 08 class comes up big.

We get a freebie of sorts with Ethan Tuftee missing a year due to injury/not enrolled and still has 4 years eligibility and maybe even a red shirt as well.

Cameron Bell? He was a LB under Chizik as well. Couldn't tackle for s*** though.

Receiver and I'm not sure he ever made it on the field, a practice injury maybe? Zach was the punt returner, played safety last year.

The last 2 years if he couldnt crack the top 3 RBs he shouldnt be playing RB at this level. If his heart was to play at RB good for him for moving to someplace that he could play RB.
