Lenz Shrine Bowl North Off. MVP
Looks like Lenz had a good Shrine Bowl with some big plays. He has pretty good straight-line speed... I wonder if he gets moved to safety. Also, Beau Blankenship's highlights were linked to Lenz's. He looks like the type of back that could be pretty effective in the spread.

He's a football player. They'll find where he fits best and he'll be phenomenal.
He's fast enough right now to play safety.
I don't know if he has the wiggle to play on the offense, but he looks like he's made to be a safety.

I think he could actually be a lot like Jack Whitver, which is just about the biggest compliment I can give someone. He made some tough catches on some horrible punts and seems to have really good hands. I think he'll stay at WR and be that go to possession type guy.
If that doesn't happen he could be a solid FS although a bit small.
He was definitely the star of the Shrine Bowl. He made up for that first fumble on the opening kick off return with an amazing punt return and an equally amazing 40 yd reception for a touchdown.
The kid has speed. You can't teach speed.
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

Don't forget about Knott who recorded 4 tackles and 3 pass break-ups.

Amazing how some of the comments on here sound exactly like when Zac Sandvig signed.

Re: Lenz Shrine Bowl North Off. MVP
It was a fun game to watch. I think he tried to get to much out of the kick off return when he fumbled it. The run back on the punt return was great. The touch down catch for the win saw the south safety way out of position, but lenz did a good job with the run after the catch.
I think all in all all of the ISU players did very well. Jake really dominated his position all night on the south. He did a great job defending on the pass and was there in most of the run plays. Hatfield was in the backfield a lot creating problems. In the end they started to double team him to keep control. Even seen them triple team him.
But reallyu the main thing is That the players and cheer leaders raised over $140,000 for The shrine hospital. That is the real winner here.
Way to go!

I'd like to see him help us at safety. We need speed like that on the defensive side.

Check out the video above on Beau Blankenship. I'm also very excited about this kid. He reminds me of Schwartz - another tough-as-nails run it down your throat kind of running back with quickness. I think the Sooners and Cowboys will regret letting this kid leave the state.
When you spread the field like we will be doing, there won't be 7 or 8 defenders in the box and our running backs will only have to beat a man or two to bust some long runs. I think Schwartz, Blankenship, and the rest of the running backs (even Bo) are going to love running out of this kind of formation.

I'm guessing that of the backs we're returning, Beau is closer to Bo. By that I mean he seems faster than Schwartz, but more physical than A-Rob. If he's a good pass blocker, he'll be invaluable in this offense. It's nice that we should be able to red shirt him this year.

He is a hell of a player. The games I saw him play last year, he dominated. He's tough as nails and is very quick. I think his quickness and closing ability makes him a safety at Iowa State.

He played Running Back last year right?

Re: Lenz Shrine Bowl North Off. MVP
I met his uncle at a HS softball game this summer. Granted it was a month plus ago, but the uncle indicated Josh was still suffering from the leg muscle strain that hampered him at the state track meet and feared it might impact his freshman season. I guess I'm kinda surprised to see him playing at this level so soon...
Nice family - if Josh is anything like his uncle and two younger female cousins, he'll be a credit to the Cyclone program!
