Article on how we are in better shape now than 95
ISU in better shape now than when Rhoads arrived in 1995 - Big 12 - ESPN
While I agree with this, it's not much of an article. Yet it is at least a little encouraging.

I read it that he has a plan for Iowa State, and they will stick with it. If you've met him, you have to be optimistic about what he will do. He's a super person.

I have no doubt he has a plan, and is a good person and a good fit for ISU. I also see very little to look forward to for the next three years unless the new DC is very, very good at making average players into a servicable defense next year and a good one in the two rough schedule years that follow.

There's an awesome attitude. That way if we do fail, your butt is covered. Good lord, does the negative attitudes ever cease?

What do you expect after three years of 4 wins or fewer?

I think we have twice the talent that we had in '95. I seem to remember having everyone undersized, and still slow. That's not a great combination. We have a lot of young, talented experience coming back. The toughest part is going to be everyone learning a new system. That's the wild card that will make this season hard to pre-guess. -

CyCloned and Cyclone42, you two remind me of that one fan played by Randy Quaid in Major League who goes on and on about how the Indians sucked last year, will suck this year and will always suck and will never be any good so what's the use in getting your hopes up?
voteforever has the right attitude.

Well - in '95 we had a new coach inheriting a program that had about 15 years of horrid football preceeding him
In '09 we have a new coach with only about 3 years of truely horrid football preceeding him.
So in that respect we're at a better point.

voteforever has the right attitude. Well you can't entirely blame them.. It has been a tough few years.
It's hard to say postive when so much bad has happened, but I will tell you I am a glass is half full person.

I am not sure even the last 3 years were as bad as when I was in school from 91-DMAC. It was like HS vs college under Walden.

We went 6-5 my frosh year in '89, and snubbed for the Copper bowl in preference for Purdue. As bad as it got, I don't recall ever going 0-conference with the exception of Walden's final year (maybe we did, I was rather intoxicated for the duration of football season from 90-93)
The one thing I will give Walden, he managed to keep his head above water with that 1 unexpected/shocking win just about every year.

Yeah, I know I can hardly blame some ISU fans for having a negative attitude about the football program after the last four or five years, but good grief. I am a Cyclone fan, always have been, always will be. I've seen a lot of down years. But I have also seen a lot of good years and those are the years I choose to dwell on, not the down years.
So at the start of each football season I do have an optimistic outlook instead of having the "Geez we sucked last year and the year before so we probably will suck again this year" attitude.

voteforever has the right attitude. I am as hopeful as anyone that CPR can turn things around, and I do see some positives from last year, but unless the defense can improve a lot this year the offense is going to have to score almost every time to have a chance to win a game. That is a bad way to win games.

No, I agree with you. Improve the defense and ISU wins more games.
