Re: Do any other fanbases/players hate Iowa State?
I don't hate any fanbase really...not even ISU, even though many of you claim that all Hawk fans hate all Cyclone fans. Some of my best friends are Cyclone fans.
I try to go out of my way to make other fanbases from other teams feel welcome when in Iowa City tailgating. There may be some trash talking, but when you trash talk and chuckle afterwards (without throwing physical objects at each other), the other fanbase usually gets that you're just having a good time and will gladly talk smack right back at you...with a smile as well. There are crappy fans in all fanbases, but to say that you hate a fanbase because you interact with 10-15 of them on an anonymous message board is a little silly in my opinion.
If you've had a bad experience (in real life, not on a message board) with Iowa fans, I'll apologize for them, even though I don't know them. I would rather everyone just have a good time and enjoy the game. Rivalries are a good thing. It gets people excited. But when rivalries escalate, that's when it just seems stupid to me.
Just my $.02

All Iowa gets for a W is a notch in the win column and a stupid little trophy.
What does ISU get out of this rivalry? Here's the list:
- In most years, national coverage for an upset if they win. You get the chance to beat a top 25 team in many years.
- In state recruiting help. Iowa totally owns the state, you have to beat Iowa in order to start getting those recruits.
- The ability to ALWAYS have nothing to lose. You can't under achieve when you are always expected to lose.
- More $$$ than Iowa gets out of the rivalry. Kinnick seats more than JTS, ISU gets more $$$ travelling to Kinnick than Iowa does for travelling to Jack Trice.
- A quality home and home with a BCS opponent, something ISU couldn't schedule without Iowa.
- A way to actually sell more season tickets, don't try and deny this is the hottest ticket ISU has all season.
There is a reason this game is the super bowl for ISU, see the list above. Iowa has a lot more to lose than gain in this rivalry, and it isn't really even debateable.
That said, I am a fan of the rivalry and want it to continue, but don't pretend like this should be "Iowa's superbowl", when it is quite obvious it is the other way around.

I doubt anyone hates Iowa State (except maybe Auburn football fans) -

Just my $.02 And some of my best friends are Hawks. We get together for the game every year, take turns hosting the tailgate and have a blast. Just because you "hate" a fan base doesn't mean you personally loathe every individual who cheers for said team.

Carry on though!! It's been awhile since a Hawk fan got on here and displayed the complete and utter arrogance that we have come to know and love. I was beginning to think that maybe Hawkeye Nation was changing, but quite apparently not...
