Good article. I think one thing that CPR will bring is directed disciplined enthusiasm, where Chiz I thought had enthusiasm, but it always seemed to play out as a fire drill on the field.

Hey, I like McCarney as much as the next guy, but the program the last four years of his tenure was going no where.

So why does Shatel think ISU going 7-5 every once in a while is good enough?

Hopefully the only thing that resembles Mac is the good personality of Rhoads. I would be really displeased if the play calling and game management were anywhere near similar.

The whole notion of "Mr. Right" and how they set that up in the article, I don't agree with. There are plenty of places that maintain this with coaching changes. At all places, "Mr. Right" is the guy who wins games.

Some people need to lighten up! A lot of negative comments over a thoughtful, well-written, and very positive piece on Iowa State football in general and Paul Rhoades in particular.

There may be some (and who knows, maybe a lot) who never questioned the Dan McCarney firing during the midst of the Chizek debacle, but believe me, I talked to dozens and countless dozens of people prior to his departure (especially in the midst of a 2-10 season) who said, "I'd take Mac back any day."

And Shatel's setting the article by using the term "Mr. Right" was dead on. I have always said there are certain programs where it seems to be critical to get a guy who either has ties to the program or at least understands the culture of the program (and state). Shatel knows all too well that Nebraska is one of those programs, as is Iowa State.

I think the article was a great read and reflects extremely well on Iowa State football and Paul Rhoads. If you see anything else in it, you are simply reading the article through sunglasses that say, 'Shatel is a Nebraska guy so I refuse to agree with anything he writes.'

Lighten up and enjoy the ride.

Remember TTTTTTom is the same skersuckup writer who in a column published the day after Solich's last game defended Frank and advocated he keep his job. Solich is fired later that day....

So what does said columnist write in the next mornings paper? That Steve Pederson made a great decision and was the absolutely best thing to do for the program.

Shatel, by and large writes decent articles - when it is related to FB you have to understand his extreme 'sker bias and his attempts to stay in good graces with those associated with it. The Nebraska mighty, ISU down keeps things balanced in their universe. The Nebraska faithfuls delusions don't allow for any other "order".

I think alot of the "Mr. Right" talk goes beyond the X's and O's, or wins and losses. I think as a fan base that, in my opinion, was personally ticked off that we were the floor mat to Chiz-lick, Pollard made the decision that would keep us interested, excited, loyal. Another hot-shot, disconnected coach may not have kept the enthusiasm there. I don't know that the writer is saying the DMac firing was a mistake, but at least the majority of the fan base LIKED the guy and believed in him. It's nice to have that back again, at least for now.

As a Husker hater, just that fact that the OWH is even talking about ISU is nice!
