Well, if you remember a year ago, both Kennard Banks and Hayworth Hicks signed late, and the only reason we were certain about Hayworth was that his dad came on here pleased as punch that his Road Grader was going to be a Cyclone. As a matter of fact, despite beon reported on the pay siites, some of us were still scrabbling for confirnmation of Banks as the summer passed, and heaved a sigh of relief when the (former) DC mentioned him at a Cyclone Club outing.
In any case, with LOI not binding after a certain date, I can see there being no official announcement on these two until after classes started, and they are "officially" Cyclones. Like the two linebackers, who I believe were both enrolled in Summer school. As mentioned above, two schollies did open late, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see that either of these players is actually on scholarship.

And tackling can be taught. Speed, size and atheticism cannot. how many times do i have to call you out on this? Those things can be improved upon immensely, just like tackling.
It would be like a coach only recruiting strong kids because he has no idea how to make them stronger... -

However, I'm glad he is on our side.

Re: New names on Roster???
Why does everybody have concern for our DE's??? I realize there isn't a whole lot of depth but I figure we could get by with a 3/4 man rotation of Maggitt, Lyle, Parker, and Laing.

Re: New names on Roster???
Do we have any playmakers on our defense???
Lyle was solid last year and seeing him around, it looks like he has added a few pounds of muscle. Parker has always had spurts where he plays well and Maggitt was the star of the spring game by far. If anybody else could step up with those three guys at DE, we should be alright I think.

Let's get real. Improvement can be made, but it's usually marginal. And improving already fast kids actually keeps them ahead of slower kids, because they were already ahead of the curve.

In most cases a S & C staff can enhance the athletic ability... helping them reach their potential, but not really changing how athletic they are.
The ability of S & C to "make" a lineman is another matter.

I didn't mean to include size in my argument, but my other statement remains. I would just caution a coach who would skip over a talented on the field player, such as a corner back who makes lots of tackles, has lots of INTs etc., but only runs a 4.6 in the 40. Most coaches would not take a chance on him if they don't think they can develop his speed. A coach who empasizes speed development could have that player running a 4.4 in one years time with an excellent speed program

Those combine Dr.'s that make gains like that usually do it buy working on their starts and form which usually makes less than a .1 of a second difference. The other stuff they do has to do with over speed training. Over speed training has very little residual effect and is a great way to make it seem like you are a lot faster than you really are. When in reality after a few weeks you true top speed will return back to normal.
