You guys complain when pre-season articles say nothing new. I thought the guy/gal was at least educated on our team, condescending or not. I think we'll win the North and can't disagree with much of his write-up. Don't be so sensitive. We are ONESTATE!
Are you kidding me! How many other teams have fans show up when they go 2-10? I don't know what your definition of cheap is, but i believe ISU fans are far from it. We have some of the most devoted fans in the nation.
100% correct. Anyone who thinks we have the cheapest fans in Div I sports has never left Ames. We have been packing the football stadium forever -- in the past 2 years we have been paying record prices (higher than anyone in the Big 12 North except Nebraska) and we outdrew Kansas when they went to a BCS bowl and we finished in last place. ISU fans support their teams through thick and thin. Kansas, KSU, Colorado, & Missouri barely support their teams when they're winning and when they go 2-10, they play in empty stadiums.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.
My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.
This is what pisses me off most about being a cyclone fan. We have to take our *** kickings every year and there is nothing we can do about it. I have to sit in the stadium and watch NU totally humiliate every cyclone player and fan. It really, really angers me to see iowa state get pounded game in and game out. I don't just get sad or dissappointed, i get angry. and these types of blogs (ya i know im going ape **** about a blog) just remind me of all the pains of being a cyclone fan
That blog is SPOT ON. Very well written and on the mark.
There is a lot of TRUTH in that blog, which obviously ISU fans have a very hard time understanding. Look, you're simply not going to go from being 2-10 to phenomenal, so the sooner you accept that the sooner you can put down the kool aid and start looking forward to some success a few years from now.
Better coaches than yours have had harder times turning around teams with actual tradition, so take a deep breath, exhale and try to relax or you're false expectations will end up running another good coach out of town.
IowaGuy, I know your flight or fight response has you quivering, but take a deep breath, exhale and try to relax. This is not HR, HN, or HI; there is no need fear that you will read outlandish pre-season prognostications.
No one is predicting going from 2-10 to an exceptional season...with Ok. State, MU, KU, on the schedule, there will be some losses. Now, if ISU was fortunate enough to play 12 games with the teams from the non-conference, an 11 win season would be a fair prediction.

You are correct about this blog. I find it well thought out and insightful. (My favorite part is where they blame Mahoney for the Iowa loss last year.)
But I'm confused by your post; no one is saying we'll be phenominal. The blogs prediction for best case is 5-7. That seems to be the general concensus here. Also, Dan McCarney had twelve years to win a North title and couldn't even though he should have twice. We weren't going to give it another twelve years nor should we have.
You've revealed yourself to be another typical ********* hackeye troll. Congratulations and **** off.

Exactly. I'm going to be wearing my Michael Vick jersey all day... well maybe not. I'll wear my Marcus Vick... no doesn't work either. I'll rock my Frank Beamer hairpiece!!
I didn't read this particular blog. Personally, I have no interest in what a Husker fan feels Iowa State will do this year. Just as I'm sure they aren't going to give two spits about my opinion of their team. Mainly, when it comes to other teams fans writing about ISU, It isn't so much what's said in articles or blogs that **** me off, it's the way they are toned. It always has that, "Oh yeah, and in case you forgot, Iowa State will suck again this year." feel to it. Like somehow, the entire Cyclone Nation is touting that we'll be in a BCS bowl or something.
I've found, for the most part, as any educated Cyclone fan his opinion of the football team, and you'll probably get the most realistic answer out there.
I'm still looking at this football season as a huge question mark. How much of our Defensive woes was personnel and how much was coaching? Either way, I think we improve a bit this year. I think we get to 4 wins easy, maybe 5 with a little luck. And if God is on our side this year, (Yeah right, I can't believe I even just said that) then we get to six.
Anyway you look at it. If we can make some 3rd down stops, if we can keep teams from scoring on us every time we touch the ball and honestly, if we get 5 wins, I'd say that would be the biggest improvement of any team you'll see in the Big XII this year.

This is realistic. Put points on the board, a defense that ranks in the 80s or better and 5 wins.
