Funny. I remember a debate with someone (no clue who) over the winter who felt that we had so many offensive linemen that we should move some to defense. So this made me chuckle...

Aclone, do you have any inside knowledge of Bykowski moving to OT, #60?

No. It would be a surprise to me, but anything can happen.

Would it surprise you on the coach's end or the player's end? Both? TIA
Any idea on who this (far right) looks like?

The coaches end, I just wouldn't know about. Carter, because he seemed to want to play tight end, and on his handful of catches last year, looked like he could be a good one. After all, when he first signed I thought he was destined to be a tackle, and his performance last Fall was a pleasant surprise.

However if he has switched, as mentioned above, I would be shocked if he didn't redshirt this season to gain strength. But I've thought that left tackle was a hotspot for this season even before Carpenter signed elsewhere.

As for your question...can we be sure that isn't Kyle Lichtenberg? I know his roster number says 69, but what number did his dad wear as a Cyclone? My other guess would be Brayden Burris, since he's next to Hayworth Hicks, but I see that he's #79. And Hulbert is #67...

#60 sure does look like Bykowski: really tall and lean for a OL. I think if he is/or does move to tackle he could really be a good one in the spread O with all the pass blocking. Can't imagine there would be a more athletic OL on the team, except for Lamaak.

Pretty sure that Scott Haughton is the most athletic OL on the team...by leaps and bounds.

I don't doubt Haughton's athleticism, but I am curious as to why you are certain that he is leaps and bounds ahead of a guy like Lamaak? Lamaak was a pretty good HS QB and receiver along with being a pretty good basketball player.

    Just curious on your insight.

yepp. which is truly frightening considering the size of the guy. for someone of his size, his athleticism makes for a scary combination

From his high school video, I saw that Lamaak had very good agility, and...well, exceptional balance. Nimble. However, even at his high school weight, he wasn't the quickest runner--perhaps because it didn't appear (to put it politely) that he hadn't spent a great deal of time on conditioning.

I always wondered how that would change when he had been at ISU for a while, and in the weight room. Like, say, about now.

My first impression of Haughton was that he was a better run/jump/strength guy right off the bat, though he reported last summer...carrying more than a few extra pounds around. Of course, even somewhere in the vicinity of 360 last Fall, you saw some of that burst late in the season when he ran down a defender along the sideline after an interception. Man, can that guy move.

Just my opinion, of course. But I was always amazed at what Keith Sims could do (knew him, a little), and Haughton reminds me a little of Sims. More powerful, though, I think. But that was a long time ago.

Couldn't it be possible that Bykowski is doing drills with the o-line to get better at blocking as that is part of being a tight end. They have some of the corners training with the linebackers to get better at the nickel. Just a thought.

That would make sense except for the jersey #
