Re: Very interesting new videos up on cyclones.com

My son-in-law told me that both Shane and Wally Burnham looked at his house that was for sale and when Wally was leaving he told him "good luck this fall" and Wally said "we're sure gonna need it".
By the way, he said both of the Burnhams are great guys!!

Exactly. What do you expect out of Burnham when he gets torched by the offense in the red zone that many times. I am glad he is fired up and ****** about this. But does that mean that our offense is clicking or the defense sucks? I doubt any of you can answer that, so let's just wait and see.

Presumably after any scrimmage either the offensive or defensive coordinator is going to be displeased.

Well judging by our inability to stop anyone the last 3 years I can pick which one I think it is :)

This is a major problem most every year (same can be said for the O). We have had some teams that have had good talent in most of the starters, but we always lack depth in some key positions. Don't lose many starts to injury, and we usually have a fine year when we have decent talent amongst our starters. Lose an average to above average number of starts due to injury at positions we are thin on talent (read a lot of positions), then our record suffers. This is the main reason why ISU struggles to win consistently. It isn't a matter of always increasing the talent of the 1s, it is increasing the talent behind them. That bites us a lot and ISU is historically a team that can't sustain injuries and survive because we never have the depth of a lot of our conference foes.

Our defense just plain doesn't have any exceptional talent especially up front. My hope all along has been that the offense will be able to outscore the other team. Maybe we will see some position changes? It's worked before with Ellis Hobbs and Jamaine Billups. Schwartz looks like he could play middle LB.

Not trying to be rude or a downer just wanting to make sure we're not running down kids for no reason.
I agree...from what I've heard, Bo is working hard. It's easy to make negative statements about someone, tougher to back them up.

Chris Lyle, Austin Alburtis, Leonard Johnson and David Sims are among the defenders who might have a chance to be called "exceptional talent" before it's all said and done.

Agreed, there is no way that Chris Lyle weighs 255 lbs---he has put on a lot of muscle it looks like.

    LJ is LJ

Frere is probably the most consistent player on the D-Line since Curvey or Leaders.

Smith has tons of experience as well

My point is that I think that this team has plenty of talent on the Defensive side of the ball it just isn't a group that has a lot of 4 year players towards the top. The offense has guys like Stephens, Arnaud, Lamaak, Robinson, Marquis that have been in the program awhile and the defense doesn't really have any one, aside from Smith and Smith

We need a couple of 500 pound fattys to clog the middle and funnel all plays to one area of the field. I can't believe that there are arn't any stud d-lineman out there that want to play NOW vs only getting two years at another university? We need more Lineman. Is Mike Marry a D-Line??

Agreed! I would hate to hear Wally talk about how great we look and then get walloped by NDSU. Wally is lighting a fire under the D's butts right now - lets hope it translates to some big stops and turnovers.
