Scrimmage Tomorrow
There will be a scrimmage tomorrow morning and I'm goin. I will do my best to stay within guidelines of both this site and of the coaching staff as far as reporting what went on.
Anything you would like me to look for?

Re: Scrimmage Tomorrow
special teams. i think most people already have a handle on who will be our starters and main contributors, but i think there's some flux in ST

Re: Scrimmage Tomorrow
I'd also like to know about the defense....tackling better? good reads?

Re: Scrimmage Tomorrow
Please give as much defensive info as you can. Anything to calm down those freaking out over Burnham's comments!!!

I think it would be interesting to see who our 2 and 3 running backs are. Also, how will the TE line up and how often they thrown too.

Defenses that struggle during August practices will most likely struggle during the season. Defense should be ahead of offense at this point.
I don't think it will matter what the coach says, our defense will not be our strength, and that is not a good thing.

It does not have to be a strength for the team to be better than last year. Just moving to the low 80's in total defense go along ways (and 4th in the Big 12 last year).

How the defensive line is adjusting to attacking instead of just chilling in the holes...
Also who is playing on our kick off and kickoff returns.. is it starters? non starters or mix of both.. we have seen injuries from spc teams w/ important people.. D. Jackson comes to mind..
Also i dont remember what DBs were learning the LBs pos but how are they looking
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

Also i dont remember what DBs were learning the LBs pos but how are they looking I believe it was Devin McDowell and Terran Benton that were learning the LB position in more of a nickel and dime package. Allen Bell has been moved to safety I believe. So in the defensive backfield it is LJ and Banks at CB with Sims and Smith at Safety. Benton and McDowell backing up at CB and Sandvig and Bell backing up at Safety.
At linebacker, we are a little thin. Thank goodness that AJ Klein has emerged at LB. I would look for Lattimer and Taufoou to back up Garrin, Smith and Raven. I have high hopes for Knott but think he will RS.

This is probably too late, but how do the OL and DL look?

Re: Scrimmage Tomorrow
Typed in some quick notes in my phone, so I'll see what else I can remember...
It was 1's vs 2's FYI
Money dropped only one ball from what I saw. He is very, very good at looking the ball in to secure the catch. To say the least, this kid is going to be a very special player!
Even prior to kickoff, Austen showed a whole lot of intensity. Every score he is only a few yards behind the receiver or back chasing them into the endzone to celebrate. Great thing to see.
Quite a few freshman saw the field on defense, mostly on the second team, but there were a few on first team. Initially, my thoughts were that the defense is much more polished and is playing a lot better than last weekend. As the scrimmage went on, the defense got noticeably more tired than the offense. The defense did have quite a few red zone stops though which was nice to see. Even a safety.
No picks from what I recall for Austen.
Jerome who? Bueker had a HUGE run! It was fun to watch, Austen was running around on the sideline mimicking Bueker after the play.
Nevermind, Tiller quickly made me forget about Brett's play as he dashed through the defense for about a 65 yard touchdown. Very next play...I witnessed the fabled Bo take it to the house from the same location. First time I have ever seen Bo play like that. A Rob had a few really nice long runs also.
Josh Lenz will be utilized a lot...I'll leave it at that.
Trickery or sneakiness? We'll see about that.
Wally likes to bring pressure and the guys can bring the pressure.
Mahoney nailed a 52 yarder.

Re: Scrimmage Tomorrow
Really interested in seeing Lenz. Sounds like he's pretty good.
