Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
...Cheering in the stands for ISU!
What, did you think I would say that I'd like to see him warbling badly timed, sophomoric cheers in the field before the game?
I believe Jeff Johnson is a *great* Cyclone. I think his blood literally runs Cardinal and Gold on alternating days. Jeff Johnson is a great asset to ISU and does a great job... at his job.
But...
It's time for an end to the humiliating, disgusting display they force him to do in pre-game festivities.
Let it die, let it end. It's not a tradition and never will be. It's an embarrassing display of ineptness. It's making fun of a great Cyclone supporter and employee. It is like putting a giant chicken head on Gary Thompson and making him run around the stadium to entertain fans.
Let it go. Let the band play more - heck, give the drum major the microphone. Make it college football again.
Go 'Clones

Go 'Clones I agree. I love what J.J. has done for this program, but parading him out on the field to get the crowd into a game is an insult to the attendance. Let the students or the band take control - as an ISU grad it means a lot more to know that the students support the team rather than a A.D. delegate to start the cheers.

That sums it up perfectly. Can you cut and paste this into an email to JP?

This thread speaks the truth.

Nobody is forcing him to do this.

Go 'Clones I like that idea. Get the band more involved. Maybe to the point of getting rid of the canned music and let the band play on. No more drivel out of the loudspeakers. I bleed Cardinal & Gold -
Re: Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
I cannot wait to see Jeff Johnson.....
sitting in the stands before the game, period.
Great guy and leader, just not there, not then.

Re: Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
I agree with all of you.
This is one of those things that makes Iowa State...Iowa State...and I mean that in a bad way.
I do love JJ. I've talked to him a couple times and wish I had his energy.

Re: Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
This is a great idea.
Let him sit down, get the cheer squads and band out there. College Game Day material.

Re: Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
In all seriousness...has anyone sent an email to JP about this? If it hasnt' happened yet, I think we need to send him something voicing our displeasure in the pre-game cheers lead by JJ. Nothing against JJ himself, but the cheering thing doesn't fit today's game.

Re: Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
I must slightly disagree.
While I can not stand most of the pre-game cheers, the cyclone power has turned into something that could hang around. I sit in the middle of the South endzone. Most of the time the cheer is pretty tame to our ears, but in 2007 vs Iowa, that was freaking loud. not kinda loud, but holy crap, I cant think straight and I am 30 rows off the field loud. There were a couple of times early last year that it got close to that level too.

Re: Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...
Maybe they should have a contest before the season for the "cheer" leader before games and make it a different fan before every game. Don't make it a 5 minute prolonged deal like this though:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8R1-1bBUf0]YouTube - Iowa State Cyclone Power Cheer[/ame]
just have the contest where you pick the best people that can get the crowd fired up in some unique way and have them finish it off with the Cyclone Power chant. I don't care if it is some kind of combination of jokes or clean-humored smack talk or something but at least it would be something different every week.
