Re: Decision to televise NDSU game
I agree that the ultimate goal is to get every game on TV. This should not affect ticket sales. Going to the game is nothing like watching it on tv. I don't understand why anyone would argue that they don't want the game to be on tv.
However, I will contradict myself by saying I hate when the game is on Mediacom. That station is a sad excuse for the athletic department to say they televised the game. That station does not get a broad audience, and we should never settle for such a crappy channel. The more often it is broadcast on mediacom 22, the more people begin to accept it, and I for one think it is a crock of **** that we can't get games on a better channel. It's a Thursday night game, and a local station like 5 could at least pick this up and get a bigger audience than mediacom 22. This is even worse for basketball because I remember the days when every game was on channel 5. Now it's rare, and that is sad.
Re: Decision to televise NDSU game
Is it going to be on in the KC area?
Re: Decision to televise NDSU game
According to this article, the game will be simulcast on FCS. Which means DJs Dugout, here I come.

My thoughts exactly.
Re: Decision to televise NDSU game
I think we have two different threads spun together here.

You're probably right, but KSU is giving up a home game the following year. It's not a bad deal for ISU.

Indeed. Last year we made the drive up from Austin to Ames 4 times for games, including the Thursday opener even though we could get every game on TV last year.
There is simply nothing like being at Jack Trice Stadium. I wouldn't trade our gameday atmosphere with any other school.
Re: Decision to televise NDSU game
The game is on Mediacom Connections 22. How many people are really going to watch it? The "we need to be on TV" argument is valid but not really as big of an issue. Same with FCS games.

Major props!

The problem being that people are counting Mediacom as "being on tv". Hardly. Anyone know how much Mediacom is paying for this--or are they airing it as a "courtesy"?

Translated - trying to fill air time and give something that might justify the recent rate hike.
I find it hard to believe that MediaCom is paying for any sort of "rights" to the game.

I'm with you! I'd been on the fence for the past two weeks but we finally decided we want to see the first game in the new Paul Rhodes era and will be hauling the kids over as soon as school lets out. Why would we watch it on TV when we can be there (and dine on Bison Burgers)?
Re: Decision to televise NDSU game
All I have to say about the Kansas State game is don't be shocked to see an empty student section, b/c I have asked around alot if people are going to the K-state game and hardly anyone I know has that ticket but all have season tickets.

Is it because so many more people go/went to Iowa or is it the media attention from being on TV all the time during the 80's/90's that helped create a larger fan base for the overwhelming majority of people that don't go to games regulary.
We have to grow the base. We have to get people interested in ISU football that may have not been so otherwise. Simple as that and getting on tv is essential to doing that. Frankly, it sucks we could only get on Mediacom when you look at some of the other Thursday night games this week that are televised on much larger networks.
