Tailgate move question
So here is my question. For the last 3yrs we have tailgated in the same spot however this year we are planning to move to a new location that has been occupied by another group the last 3 years. We don't mingle with them, we just know they will be there as they always have been at their spot and us at ours.
This year, our group has collectively decided that we would like to move to the spot that has been occupied by the other group. I know we can get it because we always arrive an hour or so earlier than they do. We didn't do it midseason last year because we thought it would be a crappy thing to do to them in the middle of the year, but this is a new season. My opinion is first come, first serve.
Are we aholes for doing this and forcing them to find a new spot??
FYI...our tailgate is much larger and more elaborate than theirs.

Re: Tailgate move question
Well I know its not our spot, because we are always the first vehicle in the whole section so --- go ahead!

We think it is...they are both very nice spots, but if it ever rains, the new spot is usually pretty dry and the old spot a bog. Maybe they were part of the group that didn't renew season tickets, but I doubt it and fully expect them to show up and look at us with a WTF face.

Re: Tailgate move question
First come first served. If they are coming late, then they'll be forced to come earlier to reserve that spot.

Re: Tailgate move question
This is a sticky situation. The mere fact you thought about this and are asking about it says to me that you know there's a chance it could be "morally" wrong. I use the word morally loosely. So in the back of your head you're thinking how low of a move this is, but you also want that spot pretty bad. Dilemma dilemma...

LOL...you know as well as I do that tailgating spots are revered ground. I wouldn't do it midseason, but with a brand new season I think it is as "moral" as it is gonna get.

That's not to say you will be living long after that group arrives to find you in their place. -

Since you know it has been this groups "spot" yes. Doesn't mean you can't do it, but yes, you'd be an a-hole.

Re: Tailgate move question
First come, first serve, that's the way it goes, plain and simple. I wouldn't sweat it in the least bit. I've always assumed it comes with the territory, if you want your spot, you have to be the first one to it. I wouldn't even be upset if mid season someone took my spot over. It's my fault for not arriving on time. I don't buy this whole, "We saw it first, 10 years ago, it's our spot thing. Nobody owns it and no one has a right to it except the first guy to plop his *** down there.
In the good 'ol days, we used to buy two parking spots, one for our car and one for our tent. That way we knew we'd always have space around us. As much as I want things to succeed with ISU, I don't ever want to see it get to a point where someone owns a spot because they've always tailgated there. It does happen at other schools. The rules should always be, "Get their first in the morning and it's your spot!"

Please delete this thread before the department issues a new map with prices for tent space areas!! -
Re: Tailgate move question
I say first come first serve, but be prepared to come earlier than normal for the Iowa game, because if it is important to them they will be there when they open the lots. If they do not come any earlier for the Iowa game you worried about nothing.

Very notable point here...your actions this first game by taking "their" spot could spark an all out war between the two groups. Before you know it, you'll have to show up at 1AM to claim your spot for every game.

Re: Tailgate move question
Would this be in B5 by the bus stop with its abnormally large parking space on the north?
A few years ago we parked in that lot and used to try to park there. A couple times we didn't get there in time and kind of gave up. Then one time we were there about an hour after the lots opened and this space was available, so we parked there. A bit later the other group came in and one woman eventually came over and said, "You must have got here really early," and we said, "Not really."
We haven't parked in that lot for at least three years, so it won't bother me where you park.
