Inside 24hrs! ~ How do you prepare?
For me it's really easy.
I bug my wife and ask her what she needs me to do for her (within reason) so I can watch the ball game "undisturbed"! ...and then I usually mow the yard, run a vacuum, dust the house, do dishes, laundry, and feed the kids. Then I'll run to the store, and get the general necessities that go along with watching football, come home, plop myself infront of my TV and hope its all worth it. I will definitely be on a clock till kick-off! Anybody else have any rituals, or routine things you do before a game? -

I make sure I put my ticket in my wallet.

She pretty much let's me do what I need to do, and vice versa. We both take care of the kids equally and she NEVER makes honey-do lists. I couldn't be married to a woman like that. Therefore, my pregame ritual is to eat, drink, and be merry.

Time to pack the Rubbermade container for another year of tailgating with all of the must haves, like: Tickets, plates, silverware... Took the rest of the week off for a 5 day enjoyable weekend. Be up in Ames by 4:00 tomorrow lighting the coals drinking St. Pauli Girl or Shiner.
Might go out and buy a new gameday shirt too.

I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow... No tailgating, but my wife is coming to the game with me... while Grandma watches the little ones.

Oh, don't get me wrong dude... my wife isn't demanding like that. I simply volunteer to do all of those things just in the event she needs some help with something while I'm watching the game. Not only that, she'll end up watching alot of it with me as well.

Re: Inside 24hrs! ~ How do you prepare?
Just caught word that they want to work late tomorrow night to meet a deadline so I need to prepare to avoid that bs. no....way....in....hell am I working (especially since it's the beginning of a long stretch of vacation which includes coming back for the ISU/Iowa game).
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience. -

Get off work around 4. Eat. Go grab some beer. And wait.

Re: Inside 24hrs! ~ How do you prepare?
I gradually allow the anticipation to build until at about a half hour before kick-off I'm at the level of "pre-game jitters". After a few minutes of the game I'm usually getting pretty well calmed down and into the jumping up and down and cheering and high-fiving and just plumb enjoying the game.
The anticipation process will start to increase around 8 AM tomorrow. It slowly (hopefully) builds until at about three hours before kickoff I am at a point where I begin the physical relaxation exercises. I jump up and down and shake my hands and arms and take deep slow breaths just to keep the anticipation from increasing too rapidly. I keep my level of caffeine and sugar intake down so as to not get over-hyped. I never drink alcohol before a game as that would interfere with the whole anticipation-building process.
If I've managed the anticipation process and the participation as a fan well, then by the fourth quarter I'll be so wrung out that I will feel as though I've actually played the game. After the game I will have a deep calm physical, emotional and mental feeling in that I did my best and laid it all out in the stands. Maybe then I'll get a cold beer and slowly drink it, enjoying every last drop and feeling very satisfied with our win. Go Cyclones!

Jello shots and packing tonight just like every other Friday night before a home game. Checking the tote to make sure all the necessary items are accounted for.

Re: Inside 24hrs! ~ How do you prepare?
6 months before the game I put it on the calender that I'm taking the day off. No excuses for missing the tailgating and now it looks like it's going to be great weather.
I don't know if there is a better feeling then getting out of your car at 1pm on a thursday knowing the following 12 hours are going to involve:
Your going to drink a lot of beer
See a lot of hot woman
See the cyclones play
Hear some great music
See some very drunk people
I really don't know how it could get much better. Maybe win the powerball?
