Iowa is soft on Offense
Isu 21
Iowa 13
Iowa has no rb's and the oline is overrated!
Ricky Stanzi makes bad reads.
Isu wins again!@
If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find
them - maybe you can hire: The A-Team. -

Re: Iowa is soft on Offense
You might want to first look at the fact that they were missing 3/5ths of their starting OL that they will have back next week....that might have had something to do with why their OL looked bad today....but continue with your discussion.

And they would have to gel instantly for things to be clicking right away. It takes time to bring a unit back up to game speed, and you're talking about 60% of that unit turning over in one week.
They'll be tough, but that's not a seamless transition to make.

Re: Iowa is soft on Offense
The real question is who is going to carry the ball? No one in that back field has proven anything.

Re: Iowa is soft on Offense
I thought the DM kid looked ok in the 2nd half.
We're pretty soft on defense, so it will be interesting.

Make whatever excuse you want, we have a better offense, special teams, and home field advantage, you have the better defense. I'll take ISU in that game.
Like it or not, you were lucky to have won today at home

Re: Iowa is soft on Offense
Iowa > ISU on D
ISU > Iowa on O
Should be interesting. Hopefully home field will give us the edge.

Should be interesting. Hopefully home field will give us the edge. ISU=Iowa on special teams
ISU=Iowa on Intangibles (ISU has a new staff, but is playing at home; Iowa has a bunch of guys coming of suspensions)
This is going to be one hell of game next week.

Re: Iowa is soft on Offense
I was at the game and they look terrible. Stanzi couldn't throw a pass further than 10 yards...running backs looked slow...o-line got pushed around. There secondary looked pretty weak as well...there d-line is all they have.
Heard several Iowa fans after the game remarking how much better of team UNI...and I heard several boos after Stanzi missed Stross wide open. Not even through 1 half and they are booing their starting qb.

They'll be tough, but that's not a seamless transition to make. The OL today wasn't gelled, and even worse, it was lacking in talent. I don't expect Iowa's OL to be in perfect harmony in week two, however, it will be vastly improved.
Dace Richardson looked pretty damn good today at RT, and he had been practicing at LG all through spring and parts of fall camp.
On top of that, easily the weakest links on the OL this week were at G. Both tackle spots played pretty well. Richardson moving to LG will vastly improve the LG spot, which was anchored today by first time starter Adam Gettis (who got absolutely abused). If Vandervelde gets healthy, he'll replace Doering, which is another big upgrade. If you watched the game today, UNI got a huge amount of penetration by going through Gettis and Doering...that has nothing to do with the OL having been gelled, they just got beat.
Putting Calloway at RT will only improve our line further.
If you watched the game today, do you think ISU has a better defensive front seven than UNI? I think UNI has a dramatically better front 7 than ISU does. Iowa's OL should improve dramatically from week 1 to week 2, and they should be playing an opponent with a weaker defensive front 7.
I'm not saying Iowa's OL will be perfect, they will undoubtedly make mistakes, but if you're expecting it to perform as badly as it did this week, you are delusional, especially if we get Vandervelde back.

In the first half, yes.....maybe you missed the part where Stanzi went 15/20 in the second half with completions of 22, 16, 16, 11, 22, 12, 29 yards. Today, yes, UNI was a much better team than Iowa. But you would be hard pressed to find anyone that thinks UNI will be a better team than Iowa the rest of the season.
Furthermore, UNI could have beaten plenty of teams Iowa will play this year: Iowa St, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, Arkansas St....UNI is a helluva football team, and you guys are pretty lucky you don't play them this season.

So what's your excuse going to be when UNI loses a few games during the year against Div 1AA schools?
