Tornado Siren - Washington
I know this has been brought up a few times, but why can't we use the tornado siren in the stadium when we score? It would be perfect
I know the usual argument is "well, people around the stadium would think there's a chance of a tornado during the 10 seconds it's on". But... anyone else watching the Washington/LSU game? When Washington scored, they fired up a tornado siren... I realize they're not in tornado alley, but I'm still going to say it sets a precedence.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
I say if people around Ames are too stupid to realize when an ISU game is going on, then let them panic and run for the basement when we score.
I loved the siren that just went off for Washington!

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
Ya when I heard the siren I thought the exact same thing. People are just being stupid if they think there is a tornado coming if there isn't a cloud in the sky.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
Just heard that, and told my GF the exact same thing. It would totally end the pregame entrance debate if we just had that. I could see that being "our tradition" some day....hopefully.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
Also, anyone notice how loud the crowd is there? The Husky fans are going nuts!

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
I would say it's not a big deal because it's in Washington, where not very many tornadoes occur. Most people there probably don't even call them tornado sirens...
I still wish they would do it here, but realistically they could only do it when there are no storms in the area... on a day when severe weather is not predicted.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
On vacation and just was watching the TV when we got in tonight. Said the same thing as you all. If Washington can have one with no relevance, then we can. COME ON AMES! We're the CYCLONES!

Edit: They don't have or need tornado sirens so for them it's just a "siren"

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
So someone goes to there basement on accident. Better safe then sorry right? Is this seriously what's holding us back? I think one could be loud enough to have its effect in the stadium, but not cause a city wide panic in Ames.
I understand the severity of an actual tornado. And this state is OBVIOUSLY not immune to the destruction of one. It's just a no-brainer to me, and apparently a lot of other people that it would be perfect. And I think the university would look at every scenario that could present itself.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
It's SICK. I love it. I wish we had that.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
I would love if there was one. I also love the idea of having a large wind generator that powers the stadium and the surrounding community. What a cool way to promote our wind farms and the power of wind.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
OMG that's SO SICK. Haha wow wow wow I want it NOW.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
I'm watching this game just to hear the siren. It sounds so sweet.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
I don't think they're worried about people running to their basements, I think it's more a concern of having 5,000 drunk fans tailgating and if some idiot drunken fan starts runs across the street to find a ditch because the siren went off and gets run over then the University will get sued. In our sue-happy world, the University is probably just covering it's ***.

Re: Tornado Siren - Washington
As long as Iowa State University resides in Ames, IA, it will never happen. Not because we are in Tornado Alley, but because the City of Ames is run by people living in the 1890s.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012.
