    Re: NFL Prospects

You won't play in the NFL unless you do at least one thing REALLY well. No player on this roster is NFL caliber - yet. Some of those guys mentioned need to have a great year, and then we'll talk

Stephens was listed as an early prospect for the 2010 draft - but that was before he moved to center...

Mike Brandtner is ranked number 2 on cbssportsline.com for punters and is projected to go in the 7th round..

Winning doesn't have a whole lot to do with having pro prospects or not. If a player is good enough, scouts will be there, whether they play for Florida, Iowa St, or Louisiana Lafayette. There have been plenty of players from worse teams than Iowa St. that have been drafted.

Here's a list of schools that had players drafted last season:
    Western Michigan
    Ohio
    San Jose State
    Western Illinois
    Temple
    William & Mary
    Ball State
    Cal Poly SLO
    Nicholls State
    Eastern Michigan
    Stillman
    Richmond
    St. Paul's College
    Furman
    Abilene Christian
    Sam Houston State
    Monmouth
    McNeese State
    Norfolk State
    Nebraska-Omaha
    West Texas A&M
    Stephen F. Austin
    Tennessee State
    Weber State
    Idaho
    North Dakota State
    Liberty

There goes that excuse. The reason we haven't had draft picks is because we haven't had talent, not because of a lack of exposure.

I was going to post the same thing. ISU has had plenty of players make the NFL even when we've been down (Troy Davis, Oliver Ross, Reggie Hayward and James Reed all come to mind). Walden had at least three guys who had long careers in the NFL (Marcus Robertson, Gene Williams and Keith Sims).

I could see Sims or ARob before they are done. Nobody else has shown me anything to make me think they have a chance.

I saw that too. I think they had him as a fifth rounder. Anyways, I couldn't find an up-to-date draft order, but he has a position rank of #18. Which sounds in the 5th round range to me...

P.S. His name is listed as Reginald. Ha.

Making 15 tackles against North Dakota State is not enough to indicate NFL ability. If he does it against Oklahoma State, Nebraska, or Kansas, then you might be on to something.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

The NFL knows where the talent is. No way our lack of publicity causes the NFL to miss talent.

    Re: NFL Prospects

Guys with NFL potential, IMO, are Sims, Leonard Johnson, Stephens, KO, Haughton, Franklin, and possibly Sed.

Most of those are based on intangibles, a perfect example of which is Sed. He's got the size and speed to be an NFL receiver, but he hasn't shown the ability yet. KO and Haughton have the size and (I think) quickness, but need to develop technique to get to NFL level. LJ also needs work on coverage, but he can already hit very well. Franklin needs more catches, which he will presumably get with Herman running the show.

That's a good list. I would add that I think Arnaud, Robinson and Money could roles in the NFL as well, along with Brantner and maybe Mahoney (given two more years to build leg strength).
