Total Points...I like our odds
Since 1998 here are the total points Iowa has laid on us: 9,10,14,14,31,40,17,3,27,13,17...a whopping 17.7 point per game avg.
If our spread offense can be remotely effective (and we avoid the dreaded turnover) I like the chance that their offense just can't keep up with us. 17 points against UNI isn't exactly burning up the O on high octane...and most importantly they didn't control the line drag out long series.
Final Score....ISU 38 Iowa 17.7

j/k but I couldn't resist!

I'm pretty sure he is the same state of mind with the people who tell us that the average family has 2.3 children! Still scratching my head with that one as well.

Do the math for us since 1998. Can't be to much higher

Re: Total Points...I like our odds
I think the .3 is the midget - or do they prefer little people?
-
Re: Total Points...I like our odds
ISU has averaged 19.27 points in that same time frame.

Re: Total Points...I like our odds
I'm totally not sure if they like to be called midget or little people or what...but, that was truly gut busting!

Re: Total Points...I like our odds
The last two years and this year, Iowa State has only held the opponent under 20 points in five games: 2007 Iowa, 2007 Oklahoma, 2008 South Dakota State, 2008 Iowa, and 2009 North Dakota State. Two of those are FCS teams, one was a big surprise, and the other two were against Iowa.
The Cyclone defense has only held three opponents under 300 yards in the same time span: 2007 Iowa, 2007 Toledo, and 2008 Iowa. The ISU defense has given up an average of 419.5 yards per game in that span, and with the lowest single game totals being 233 by Iowa in 2007 and 240 by Iowa in 2008. That's 186.5 and 179.5 yards less than our average yards given up respectively.
Quite simply, the team that ISU's defense has performed best against since 2007 is Iowa. If we can score 21 points I like our chances, and if we score 24 points or more, I think we will almost certainly win.

Re: Total Points...I like our odds
Cyfan15 I could have said it better! 24 points and I love our odds.
Since '98 Iowa has scored over 17 only 3 times (we've done it 5 times). With the running game they have now I don't see it being any different (barring a to meltdown). They only scored 1 td against our D last year.
Saturday can't come soon enough!

Do the math for us since 1998. Can't be to much higher 1% chance? with our offense i can definitely see it happening if we open up the play book.

Final Score....ISU 38 Iowa 17.7 I think I would be happy with a couple of TDs. I believe it has been awhile since they have even scored one in a game against the Hawks. Unfortunately, I think if either team scores 38, it will be the Hawks (and I don't think that will happen) because of Iowa State's poor defense. I think the score will be something like 17-14, either way.

Saturday can't come soon enough! Agree. If we can get to 27 points, I think our odds of winning are about 90%+. But we have not scored a TD against them in two games. This year's offense should be the best we have fielded against them since Seneca.

Re: Total Points...I like our odds
Actually it's been 10 quarters since we scored a TD against the Hawks.

Final Score....ISU 38 Iowa 17.7 ISU since 1998 - 27, 17, 24, 17, 36, 21, 10, 23, 17, 15, and 5. If you really wanted to get picky, you could change the 23 to 16 and the 5 to 3, since I'm assuming we're talking offensive points - you could also change the 36 to 34. But for the sake of argument, we'll go with the actual point totals.....which equals 21.2 PPG. Not exactly blowing the doors off of people.
If ISU scores 38 points, Iowa will have more problems than people would have ever imagined, and losing to ISU will be the least of the worries among the coaching staff. I know Iowa didn't give up 30 to anyone last year, and I think they only gave up 30 to one team in 2007 (@Purdue), and against Ohio State in 2006.
