Gameplan vs KSU?

What would you think the game plan is versus Kent State?

My prediction:
Run the ball. Why in the world is ARob not getting 10-12 more carries a game? He is solid, and so is the OL. Take the pressure off Arnaud and Tiller this week. Another way to take the pressure off is to throw more 4-5 yard routes. I'm not sure if Herman remembers everything he said in the off-season. "Last time I checked, if you get 4 yards a play you're going to score everytime". Instead, against Iowa, he only remember his other quote, "We're going to make the defense cover every square inch of the field". That doesn't mean you have to throw the ball 20 yards down field. Especially when when Iowa was giving us the run and quick slants.

I was expecting a lot better management and adjustments from Herman. I'm definately not getting the pitchforks out, cause I think he is a good coordinator but I hope he brings his A-game Saturday.

I think everyone on the staff is still learning( or in Wally's case teaching) on the fly.

I agree completely. I think we need to run the ball until the opposing team can stop it. I don't care what our receivers can do. When you throw the ball 3 things can happen and 3 of them are bad. I have faith in Herman, he has performed. He will figure out what needs to be done. I think he saw opportunity in the passing game because Iowa's secondary is sort of weak. When you go back and look at tape I bet you would see a lot of open guys that were thrown to because I saw them at the game. I think a lot of the trouble was Arnaud just trying to do too much. He went for a lot of deeper throws when there was someone underneath open. I look for a solid offensive performance this week.

Because we'd like to have him around for the whole season and next season. 30 carries a game is a great way to injure a running back who only weighs like 180 pounds.

Game plan = no turnovers. We will win if that happens.

He only has 35 carries in two games. I know he didn't play a couple series against Iowa, but still. Ten more carries would be alright.

I agree for games like Kent State but against teams like Iowa you've got to go with whatever works. Ideally it'd be nice to see Arob get around 20 touches with 4 or 5 being receptions, I'd like to see us be as balanced as possible this week. I think there may be a positive in AA's showing last week, it showed that theres still plenty of kinks to work out. Honestly I'd like the game called just like the other games, I have faith in the coaching staff that they can find the identity of this team and whats going to work best for us to win games.

The more I think about it the more I think how huge this game is. We HAVE to come out and perform well Saturday.

The FSN guys mentioned we have the largest line in the country (probably because of a Center who used to play Guard and still weights 300+ when most are around 270-280).

With that being the case we need to run to open up the pass and let Austen run around with it as well. Get our timing down on our short routes so in later games those become automatic and will eventually open up the deep ball.

Defensively stuff the run and force them to pass on us.

He had 19 against Iowa, 10-12 more puts him at 29-31, that's a lot of carries. I'd like to see him used more in the passing game and still get his 20 carries. We only threw to 4 different receivers against Iowa, that's not enough IMO. 20-25 touches, rushing and receiving is about right I think, any more than that and we're going to see injury problems.

1. Run the ball.
2. Throw lots of slants
3. Don't turn the ball over
4. ?????
5. Profit

We need to be more fundamentally sound. Dont force anything! Take what the defense gives us.

Last week Iowa gave us the run and took away the deep ball. Arnaud pressed ..a lot.. and tried to force the deep passes. We don't need to do that to win football games.

Im sure Herman wants to run his gameplan and dictate his own plays- but sometimes that isn't always the solution. I look for a much better game this weekend because we have the physical tools on offense to put up a bunch of points - we just need to be smart.

I'm fairly certain you meant to say 2 of them are bad, but that is beside the point.

You know what I don't get about that quote? What can happen when you run the ball? You can gain yardage (equal to a complete pass), you can lose yardage or no gain (equal to an incomplete pass or worse if yardage is lost), or you can fumble (equal to an interception). So how is running the ball any different?
