I don't think we need to change a thing. A-Rob is 2nd in the league in rushing and rush attempts. We're successful at it and fairly balanced.
What will be interesting is when ISU gets to conference play, and teams with better athleticism on defense decide to take away the run. On the other hand, Iowa conceded the run and decided to take away the deep pass, and ended up winning 35-3.
Do any teams on the remaining schedule have a good enough defense to play ISU straight up (i.e. don't have to bring extra defenders into the box to stop the run, and don't have to drop extra defenders back to stop the pass)? KU? OkSU? NU? MU? Others?
"Don't worry Boss...they can't do nothin' 'til they're through sparklin'..."
We've had guys running open all year, even against Iowa. Arnaud was just trying to force it downfield instead of going with what the defense was giving.
What games are you watching?! I agree Arnaud has looked poor in his first three games but we don't have any WR's that get seperation on their own at this point

There were guys open in the flats and on the outside... Not sure why Arnaud was trying to force things deep over the middle all day. Watch again, especially on the interceptions and incomplete passes and you will see the openings.

I agree that guys where open in the flats, but they always should be. I am looking for a WR to get seperation when actually running a route. We do agree that Arnaud forces things and doesn't check down to the flats when he needs to. Maybe if he started doing that things would open up down the middle a little more
The Spread works trust me, i was in Austin, TX for the Texas Tech- Texas game this weekend and Tech looked identical to our offense they just looked a lot smoother and made very little mistakes, the perfect word for what i saw would be "efficient". Not to mention moved the ball at will against the #2 team in the nation. (picking up first downs at will, completion of nearly all passes, running the ball for good gains)
With being three games into this system i am not upset with the play of our wide outs, just give the players time to grasp the system and we will be golden

Finding the receivers in the flat is a big part of the offense. But Arnaud has a very hard time checking down. He stares his main receiver down and can't adjust when they are covered. The thing he needed to do against Iowa was throw to open flat or wait for a receiver to drag across the middle. They were very rarely bring more than 3 lineman so he had time to throw. He just got nervous and threw into coverage.
We've only had three games in this offense so I'll trust that things will get goin even more so in the next couple weeks. One thing that is important to remember and i think it has already been said but Herman is running his offense with guys he didnt bring in. I'm not saying the guys we have are bad or anything but if we give these guys the time to settle in and bring in the guys they think will succeed in their offense, in the future we should see an even more potent offense.
I think we are just working out the kinks right now and if we can be 3-1 in non-conference working things out and then be ready for K St i like our chances for a possible 6 or so win season.
I'm with you, wpicmin, I think this team is really close to being good. Without all the TO's, and a couple costly penalties, this team is likely to be competitive everywhere except maybe Okie State and the Bugeaters in Lincoln. Can we win 4 of the remaining games? I don't see why not. With Wally & Shane Burnham we would have beaten KU last year. This team could still be the comeback team of the year this year. I'm going to keep my Holidya calendar clear for a while yet.
