Sensing a little cockiness
So far, we've only played one team in the top 127, and that team beat us at home easily. The teams we've beaten were ranked 128 (Army), 130 (Kent St.), and 150 (NDSU), according to end-of-season Sagarin ratings. (I used end-of-season ratings rather than current ratings because a team is bound to drop in ratings after getting beaten by us)
According to current Sagarin ratings (through games as of 9/26/09), Kansas St. is 75, Baylor is 60, and Colorado is 79.
Just thought I'd advise caution. There was a lot of cockiness around here after the NDSU win going into the Iowa game. This resulted in a lot of near-suicidal group depression after the Iowa pummeling. I think if more people had been thinking realistically going into that game, they wouldn't have been so surprised by the loss.
Anyway, I am seeing a return to the cockiness after the Army victory. Sure, it was a great win, especially for us. But Army is a very-low-ranked team, and we are heading into games against much higher-ranked teams.
Not saying we are going to lose this one for sure, as I think we can win this one. But losing this game wouldn't surprise me, either.

Re: Sensing a little cockiness
You do make some good points. But wins=momentum, and the fact we've won more games than last year means a lot to the players, especially the ones that went through the chizik fiasco. Rhoads can use these wins, regardless of who they were against, to get his team fired up for K-State. I've got a good feeling about Saturday

Re: Sensing a little cockiness
I'm not seeing cockiness, just happiness and optimism. We are far from a lock for any more wins, but there is hope for more. I would rather have some hope spread around this board than the doom and gloom and complaining it seems we get every week.

Actually the Hawks on this board have been very gracious considering how bad they pounded us. Of course our moderators may be helping protect us from the worst of it.
I suggest optimism, but realism.

We are just having fun! Its not our job to worry about keeping level headed as fans.... its to have fun.
3 wins this year is awesome. Anything more than that would make this the best season since the 2005 season.

And we haven't seen this many this close together in years, so we're enjoying it.

Re: Sensing a little cockiness
It's OK to build confidence and expect to win.
I sure as heck hope our players and coaches expect to win.

Re: Sensing a little cockiness
I expect us to be underdogs in all of our remaining games.
Yes...that includes CU at home.

No Hawk fan did any "pounding" on me. Remember, we're all just spectators.

much higher-ranked teams. that rating service also has us at 70, and texas a&m at 66. all it is saying to me is that we have 3 wins already, and at least 4 more games on our schedule that we CAN win-i've said it before-there are no gimmies for this football team right now, but there are at least 4 more games this year that i think we have a very good chance to win. when was the last time anyone felt comfortable saying that about our team 1/4 of the way through the season?

3 wins, 50,000+ in the stands. What is not to like? Football is fun again.
We should all enjoy KC. It may be our bowl game.

Re: Sensing a little cockiness
I don't sense cockiness. I think people are just glad we've beaten last year's win total and have a coaching staff that seems to understand how to win the games they're supposed to win.
Chizik came in and lost games against Kent State, UNI, and Toledo that should have never been lost no matter how many changes they were trying to implement.
