ISU fans should plan ahead road work could cause delays on I-35 south on Sat....

CHARITON, Iowa – Iowa State University football fans should plan ahead when traveling to Kansas City this weekend for ISU’s game against Kansas State. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Chariton construction office advises that continuing road work on Interstate 35 south of Des Moines could cause some travel delays.

Due to construction work, traffic is routed in a head-to-head pattern from Iowa 92 in Warren County south to the Decatur County line. Travelers should be prepared for some delays in the area of single-lane traffic.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.

Hopefully it's just a slow down. I can never understand why people can't just merge civilly on a wide open interstate.

Because groups of people become dumb, yet a single person might be smart. Like yourself, I am sure you know how to drive like a smart person, however when surrounded by idiot drivers it all goes downhill.

Because it's a race. If you're not first you're last. The 0.047 seconds that they save by forcing their way in front of you is critical to arriving at their destination at the earliest possible moment.

Anyone that we see with ISU plates/plate frames/bumper stickers, we'll try to let you in wherever we can.

This was a big mess when coming back from the Fl. St. game. Major traffic delays coming home.

I went to Kansas City in late May and it was torn up from the Decatur/Clarke line to Osceola and I thought that was bad enough. Now it extends from that line all the way to Highway 92 (Winterset, Indianola) exit.

It looks like it is only 20 miles per the DOT website:

Comment: Warren County: Road construction on I-35, reduced to one lane in both the northbound and southbound lanes. Speed limit is 55 MPH in work zone. Chariton RCE Office 1-800-881-5778.

There is also a 10 mile stretch just south of Cameron in Missouri. Last weekend it took us just under three hours from the Kansas side of KC to Des Moines.
