I agree. What about George Amundson? Wasn't he a first round draft pick? What about Dave Hoppman? He is way before my time, but I am curious.

It's just impossible to say how great a player was if you didn't see them play. The fact that Nile Kinnick made so few lists speaks volumes. I'd put him at CB rather than HB, but still, he needs to be on the team.

    Here's my primary example:

Cal Jones: Outland trophy winner and 3 time 1st team AA

Since he played in the 50's nobody even knows who he is but he's probably the best lineman of the bunch.

I didn't say anything about anyone other than Clark. He was the best tight end in college football in 2002, I was just pointing out that ignoring his NFL career doesn't hurt him at all. I actually agree with you on the others though.

And I'm no ******* Hawk fan either.

George might not make this the All-Star team in this thread, but yes, he was a first round draft pick. Great all-around athlete.

Hall of Famer Amundson leaves mark in two sports

George Amundson - South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame

And it looks like the Fanatics might have discussed this once before:

Re: All State of Iowa Team

Those of you omitting Chuck Long in favor of Seneca or Warner are either too young, or too filled with Hawk hate. If the measuring stick is accomplishments in the NFL Warner as a future Hall of Famer, gets the nod hands down.

Long is in the Hall of Fame - the College FB Hall of Fame. He was a 4 year starter, 3 time All-Big Ten Player, 2 time consensus All-American. Warner started 1 year at UNI. And as mentioned earlier Wallace, while an athletic freak, had decent but not spectacular stats, played on some of ISU's better teams, but were still only slightly above average - plus he had 1 All Time Highlight reel run.

To me QB is one of 2 non-debatable positions on this "team". The other is 1 RB slot.

I picked him because I thought he was the best player at his position who played at the schools specified. Long was a great one, but Warner's talents and ability took him further, and proved, in the long run, to be superior.
