Prospect
James Smith
Over the years that was the worst call to kick smith out of the game I have ever seen. I have seen players chase someone down and tackle them with nothing but 15 yarder. A reaction punch is wrong i agree, but kicking him out of the game was unreal. also the repercusion of being out next week as well. Is there a chance this can get appealed to allow him to play?

Re: James Smith
As much as Nebbie handed the clones this game, we tried to hand it right back, and this is one of many examples. Overreaction by the ref, but James should have been the bigger man.

Re: James Smith
O'Connell stepped his game up huge though. Made 2 HUGE plays.

Re: James Smith
Huge rep to Jesse. Even more to Wally.

Is James smith suspended more games??
Its ridiculous enough the had him out that game.

This seems like a case to send to the Big 12 conference and ask them to reconsider (assuming JS is supposed to miss next week). I would think there is a good chance the league would agree. It was clearly a case of second guy getting busted, and it wasn't an awful cheap shot.

Re: James Smith suspended for Texas A&M game
The non-call on the blatant face mask hold on Lyle was pretty bad. That was right in front of the ref too. Non-saying the officials had it out for ISU but I would no be suprised to find out they all live in Nebraska.

Re: James Smith suspended for Texas A&M game
NCAA Rule 9-5:
During the second half, players shall not participate in a fight.
PENALTY—15 yards from the basic spot or from the succeeding spot,
first down for Team B fouls if the first down is not in conflict with other rules, and disqualification for the remainder of the game and the first half of the next game.
Fighting is defined as: any attempt by a player, coach or squad member in uniform to strike an opponent in a combative manner unrelated to football. (Such acts include, but are not limited to:
- An attempt to strike an opponent with the arm(s), hand(s), leg(s) or foot(feet) regardless of whether there is contact; or an unsportsmanlike act toward an opponent that causes any opponent to
retaliate by fighting).

He and the other guy were joking and patting each other on the back afterwords. I was wondering if JS was just telling the guy it was a great hit and was pumped up.

Hopefully the NCAA will review this and hopefully have something different to say.

Ejection rule
Rules Changes 1. Player Safety. Flagrant Personal Fouls (Rule 9-6). For 2009-10 the rules committee has added a new section that calls for conferences in the days following a game to review certain particularly dangerous plays. This new rule says that if a player is ejected for any flagrant personal foul the conference must review the game video for possible further action. In addition, if the officials call fouls for targeting defenseless players or using the crown of the helmet and the player is not ejected, the rules mandate a conference review. Furthermore, if the review by the conference reveals actions that should have resulted in a personal foul but were not called, the conference may impose sanctions.
I believe he will play.

Then again, the refs here have been reviewing *everything* remotely friendly to ISU, so is it any surprise? Give the ref credit for trying....they need to talk to some SEC refs to learn how the pros do it...
