Re: Interesting Grant Mahoney Stat
Maybe we can also call some of them a bit of the sophomore slump, however the ones I have seen are linemen not blocking.
NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section. -
Re: Interesting Grant Mahoney Stat
Part of the problem would be having a 6'2" 200" Safety #46 as your snapper trying to block 300+ Defensive Lineman..... Giving way too much ground after the snap and standing up....?
1st pic is extra point....2nd is FG......sad we need to block better...

Re: Interesting Grant Mahoney Stat
I thought the stat was going to be having the most kicks blocked.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

he needs to hold ground better, because other teams will be coming.
When in college I long snaped, could you tell me does ISU interlock legs...?
We use to but injuries may be greater now, because of the strength of the athletes are greater....

They (Coaches) know better than us, but adjustment and timing are critical to the success of a conversion of fg. It's not all on just one guy (Mahoney) like some posters would like to believe.....Heck, they let the kid try a 57 yarder early on, if the Coaches did not have faith in the kicker and this unit that would never happen....
Thanks for the info.....

Re: Interesting Grant Mahoney Stat
Perhaps I've been overanalyzing his technique since the blocked/missed PATs started, but does anyone feel like he's a little bit shy on PAT attempts? The one attempt at Nebraska, the ball was snapped, there was a slight hesitation, then he went in to kick the ball. Maybe I'd have to see the video again, but I knew before the ball was even kicked that it would be blocked.
Mahoney does a fantastic job otherwise, and those 50+ yarder FGs are definitely nothing to sneeze at. He can really pummel the ball -- except when a miss or a block gets to his head.

Really, he's looked more tentative since the block vs. KState. That was his only miss in his career to that point. Then, all of a sudden vs Kansas he misses one wide left and wide right. That is HARD to do from 20 yards out. Like he was overthinking it. I think he got back to just kicking again, but nu was just pulverizing through our O-Line on Saturday. I think all of the missed kicks were missed for different reasons...

Re: Interesting Grant Mahoney Stat
can we get more points if he kicks from 50+ yards? <sarcasim>

Unless you guys expect him to kick curve balls around the rushing defensive lines hands... That was true on Saturday vs NU. However, at KSU game the player who blocked was not even close to line of scrimage. Kick was low. First Extra pt at KU was a shank despite good hold and snap. Another miss at KU was a bad snap and I can't remember 3rd miss. Sorry.. some of this has to do with Grant. -

The issue is that you make the snapper have to learn snaps of different lengths, and the timing for the kicker becomes different.

Right, he was only using his teammate as a springboard to jump 12 feet in the air. Totally Grant's fault for kicking it right at that 6"x 12" window that was obstructed by the KSU player's hand.
