How good was this for Tiller?
Not sure if this has been talked about or not, but can you think of a better way to build the confidence of our future QB? Granted the offense was pretty safe and they didn't try anything special. But that 47yd pass was huge. For a freshman getting his first start in that atmosphere?
Also, will this effect Herman's play calling at all knowing he has another QB who can come in and play.

This was huge for his confidence. You are right, they didnt try anything crazy or agressive which is fine. It worked. That pass for him is good. However you did see some freshman mistakes but made it work out anyway. He will be a great asset.
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
A lot of positives can be taken away from Tiller's play this past weekend, but he was on a very short leash and wasn't allowed to let it all hang out. Overall, I was very pleased with his poise and performance.
Negative(s):
-It didn't seem like he was able to stay in the pocket very long and pick out the receivers, but a lot of that can be attributed to Nebraska's D-line.
-Very limited pass attempts which tells me Herman doesn't have a lot of confidence in his throwing ability yet.
Positives(s):
-Ability to scramble for extra yards and elude the pass rush.
-Throwing the ball away when needed instead of taking a sack/loss on the play.
-Taking care of the football with the qb/rb exchange.
-No 'deer in the headlights' from him that I could see, which is pretty remarkable considerring this was his first start in one of the loudest & hardest places to play in the country.
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
Tiller played a very smart game and was managed well. I was very nervous we didn't let him do much at all - especially when Nebraska kept moving the ball into our side of the field. Fortunately, the defense kept getting stops/turnovers and we didn't need more than 9 points.
I felt we could have thrown more quick outs and looked for Catlett down the middle when spreading them out - but we got the win and that's all that matters.

This This This. Very proud of Tiller getting the ball away. Could of cost us the game probably if he had been forcing it..well maybe if Nebraska didnt keep turning it over for us:wink:
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
yeah their Dline (mostly Suu) was getting through pretty easily so i can't fault Tiller too much for having happy feet. Also i agree with the ability to throw the ball away instead of getting sacked. There's one pic where Suu is hanging on his arm as Tiller is trying to throw it away.
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
Even our defense won the game this does wonders for the and Tiller's confidence....
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
I was quite impressed with his ability to throw the ball away and not get a grounding call, very smart gameplay out of him, and my reservations about him not running as hard as Austin to get that extra yard went out the window, there were several runs where he went all out to get the extra yardage.
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
This is meant to be a knock, but I really hope that Tiller moves to WR sometime in the near future. He looked very fast when he was on the move with the ball in his hands, and to be quite honest, I hope we can get a better guy in to play QB when AA graduates. Still the kid didn't make mistakes and did pretty much exactly what was needed to win that game. He will always be remembered for that.
Re: How good was this for Tiller?
basically he didn't throw the ball much at all. It would have been nice to see a couple more shots down field, but he might not have had time to do it again. Their defense was very good at rushing the passer. The way the game turned out it made it pretty easy for a very good defense to shut ISU down.
This week, no matter who is the QB, more chances will need to be taken.
