No kidding. The field at Arrowhead is absolutely awful. JTS wouldn't look that bad on it's worst day.
Yup, it's what happens when you play on real grass. It gets torn up, that's what it's supposed to do, better a piece of grass than your knee. I do remember there being a couple of times players slipping though, that's not good. It may have been too much water or something. I've been down on the field, even during years that people said it was terrible and needed to be replaced. It still looked good and felt more firm than any lawn I'd ever been on.
Grass has always torn up this way. The perfect grooming of the field makes it more noticeable. There isn't one pro stadium, with real grass, who's field looks better than JTS. The Bears should give us a call.
Do players prefer field turf over grass? Plus who cares what it is... it's not like you will ever play on it, so it should make absolutely no difference whether it's grass or field turf. If it works for Iowa it can work for us too.
With Iowa State's GREAT TURF program, it would be a shame if they switched to field turf. A shame.
