My only point is that fans have a right to judge an offense based on what they see on the field, not what the coach did prior to coming to ISU.
This where I have an issue with you Tornado Man. If you are going to base the future success (or failure) of a ISU football coaching staff on what you observe on the field during the first season of that staff, then what were you thinking after McCarney's first game of his second season when he:
1). Didn't use Troy Davis on a 3rd and I think six. ISU ended up punting the ball. Wyoming scored and sent the game into overtime, which:
2). McCarney elected to go on offense first in the overtime period instead of defense and ISU lost because they couldn't score.
Again, I think you have to give coaching staffs and players time to adjust. The Big 12 has faster, bigger athletes on defense than what Herman saw at Rice. I think now that he has seen the Big 12, he will go after recruits to fit into his scheme.

I agree with you and I think all rational fans are giving this staff time to adjust and find what works. I do wish we would have really made an attempt to win on offense Saturday, but I don't know what the actual game plan was.
But to be fair, these kinds of questionable coaching decisions (the one you noted above that is) were pretty much consistent throughout Dan's tenure here as HC. So I'm not fully sure how it applies here.

:biglaugh:
Yeah, that is spot on.
However, Mac did do some great things for ISU -- despite those two major gaffes. I mean, taking teams to bowl games after 20 years and actually winning bowl games; several straight winning seasons.

A minor point of contention here. The most "straight" (consecutive) winning seasons he ever had was 2.
2000 9-3
2001 7-5
2002 7-7 (7-6 before the bowl loss; so you could argue that was also a "winning" season)
2003 2-10... ouch
2004 7-5
2005 7-5
2006 4-8

And the questionable coaching decisions were a thorn in DMac's side and part of the reason Cyclone fans thought we could do better with someone else.
I think that we are giving Herman time. I don't hink being frustrated or questioning game plans means we want him gone. Just means we are frustrated and don't understandthe gameplan.

Taz - where did you get that quote? I didn't type that first line you quoted.

I agree with 22 int hat we are givving Herman time. I don't hink being frustrated or questioning game plans means we want him gone. Just means we are frustrated and don't understandthe gameplan.
This is what happens when you hire people that have never been head coaches before. There is a learning curve.
If the same mistakes are made years from now, then we can really complain. Remember Mac playing for that damn fg against Missouri in his 141st game as a head coach. He never learned, or adapted, the mistakes were the same over the years.
There is a reason that he is a position coach. I think that we have seen some good things from Rhoads, although I will admit that the onside kick against Iowa sent my blood pressure to a place that it has never been before (and hopefully never goes again). But, the fake punt worked against Nebraska.
My biggest guess about Saturday was that, as soon as they saw how overmatched we were, they were trying to get the game over without any more players getting hurt. It made for HORRIBLE viewing, but you could tell they wanted the clock to run out.

Sorry, not sure what happened there. I fixed it
Re: Offensive anemia is infuriating
Open up the play book Herman PLEASE!!! We cannot afford to go into this weekend with a lack luster offense or we may lose again. Go with what works until they stop that then do something different, and the tight end needs to get more plays down the field BIG TARGET!!! Maybe with another week of Health the offense will be better than last week, but do not be scared to mix it up go after the defense!!! Our d played well most of the game good job guys!!
