Offensive anemia is infuriating

Watched a lot of very frustrating games. Saturday is close to the top.

I know we had guys hurt that finally came back...playing against a ranked, team, etc. Yada, yada, yada.

IMO, this was the 2nd worst offensive gameplan of the season, behind the Iowa game. Didn't abuse what was working (short, quick passes, especially to the tight end) and never, ever - not once - tested the Oklahoma State defense.

It was clear we were content with trying to control the ball/clock - but not actually do it. We hold Oklahoma State to 13 points in the first half and do nothing offensively to help/reward our defense? Nada?

For me, it was too much of a "don't make any mistakes, lets hope to just keep it close" mentality and that didn't even work. Frustrating, to say the least. Had to know Oklahoma State would get points eventually and when our offense couldn't sustain anything, it just got worse.

I felt we could have exposed OSU with more short/quicker passes, screens and getting ARob more involved in the passing game. Likely lose, but at least could have said we made a real, legit attempt.

Agreed. I'm hoping another week of health for Arnaud, Robinson, and Stephens will put us over the top against CU.

Yeah. I felt it lacked creativity, and it was clear to me that Anraud's hand was still affecting him. The line was very ineffective in the run game, thus ball control wasn't going to happen. Hopefully this week gets people healthy, focused and on their game.

Agreed! We played a very bland game offensively. I will say that I don't trust Arnaud to throw a slant pass. And I don't trust our WR's at beating the defender inside on the slant pass.

The screen to Darks got 8 yards to start the game. Then what? Did we run it again? Why did we run the option all day long when OSU has such great speed? Sweeps with ARob?

OSU's front seven crushed us at the point of attack and made good plays. A good example was the screen play where ARob had 40 yards of open field ahead of him, except for one LB who blew past his blockers and got the TFL. Our WRs are also not very good at blocking; that was one big difference between OSU's offense and ours. Their WRs sustained their blocks and they could get 10+ on every screen or run. We try to run those same plays and they go for 1, maybe 2 yards because our WRs on the edge usually wiff on their man.

I really didn't get from watching AA that the hand was really a big factor. The touch on that pass to ARob was beautiful. Had some other real nice passes with zip (the early toss to Catlett was great).

About ARob and the TD. We've scored 3TDs with that type of play? Or at least setup 3TDs from it (Baylor, KU, OSU). There may be more.

At any rate, I'd love to know why he's not more involved in the passing game. Had him a lot more involved the past two years with screens, flat routes and fake WR screen and screen pass to the other side. Best offensive weapon by far, use him! And this applies to even before he got hurt, so the injury is not the reason he has not been in the passing game, IMO.

It was a baffling game to watch. For much of the game, it was as if Austen couldn't throw - at least it seemed that way by judging the play calling.

We were one dimentional for much of the game, and it showed. When we opened things up a little in the fourth, we had much more success moving the ball.

Screens maybe, but short passes would have been very tough EXCEPT to the tight ends. They had press coverage on all our WR's and none of them could get off the line.

The receivers are a bigger issue. At times, except for a few guys, I wish we could start over at that position. So much talent/hype - little results (as in, separation from the defender).

now having said that I would rather be where ISU(we) are than where lowly Kansas U is rite now....I see the good old jay-squawks are sitting in last place with one win in conference play!!!!

Here's hoping that the j-squawks stay home and our clones go bowling this year!!!!

Did anyone else feel like their WRs were getting away with a bit of holding out there? I remember at least one play where of them was holding on to our guy's shirt sleeve and getting dragged along.
