This is probably a blessing in disguise for a new coaching staff. Rhoads can get "his" type of guys in. I agree this is really interesting, thanks for the info.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.

What?
A larger assortment of warm abled bodies to choose from on defense would be better than empty schollies spots waiting to be filled by "Rhoads type of guys".
If nothing else a few more slugs on the D-line to run out there would add up to some fresher bodies in the 4th qtr.

Good responses, Cy1969 and jbhtexas. Not only did the school lose scholarships, a bunch of players quit the program. To make matters worse, the NCAA had just passed the rule limiting how many scholarship players colleges could recruit. Before, colleges could hand out as many scholarships they wanted in a year. Walden and staff could never catch up to the other schools. It's a wonder he was able to field a winning team -- which he did. And then the administration cut him off at the knees when they wouldn't allow Steve Lester to return to the team even though Lester completed a summer course.
That's right, great job. That was the time that the NCAA instituted the 25 scholarship limit. I believe it was 30 right before that.
Walden petitioned hard to drop that number, or at least go back to the 30 signees. That got him nowhere.
People don't remember how good Steve Lester was. Blaise Bryant was coming back as well. That team could have been special.
As it was they won at Oklahoma, and I don't know if another Iowa State coach has ever done that. Duncan should have but Alex Gifford missed a fg to win the game.
