Analysis of the Bowl Situation
I've been crunching the numbers on teams with bowl eligibility and the number of bowls/commitments, and here's what I've come up with if ISU finishes with 6 wins (the number of eligible teams is based on my own prediction based on the remaining schedule and likely BCS bids):
Bowl spots - Eligible teams - BCS bids
ACC: 8 - 8 - 1
Army: 1 - 0 - 0
Big 12: 7 - 9 - 1
Big East: 4 - 5 - 1
Big Ten: 6 - 7 - 2
C-USA: 5 - 7 - 0
MAC: 3 - 7 - 0
MWC: 5 - 6 - 1
Navy: 1 - 1 - 0
Notre Dame: 1 - 1 - 0
Pac-10: 5 - 6 - 1
SEC: 8 - 11 - 2
Sun Belt: 1 - 4 -0
WAC: 3 - 4 - 1
If this holds true it leaves:
Army's bid
One ACC bid
One Big Ten bid
This leaves one SEC team and one Big 12 team out looking for unfilled bowl games. But there are still the mid-majors left, and they could get a bid over a BCS team if the bowl is in the team's area.
So if I had to guess right now, I guess I'd say it's likely, but far from certain.
I had look at a lot of stuff to work this out so I apologize for any errors.
A seventh win seals it though, so let's not rest easy and root hard for them to beat Mizzou!!

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
Best case scenario for ISU:
The league finishes out like this:
Texas: 12-0
OSU: 10-2
NU: 9-3
Tech: 8-4
ISU: 7-5
Mizzou: 7-5
OU: 6-6
Only 7 teams make the eligibility requirements. CU, Baylor, KU, KSU, and A&M don't make it.
Big 12 probably isn't going to get another team in the BCS outside of Texas, even if Texas makes the championship game.
I think if we win next week we are probably going to the Insight or Texas.

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
Only way I think Big 12 gets another team is if Texas gets beat in big 12 title game

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
I posted this in another thread but as long as KSU loses next weekend, ISU will play in a B12 bowl. At worst ISU and KU both finish 6-6 and compete for the final B12 bowl spot, and I just can't see a bowl picking KU over ISU.

I'm not so sure... I live in Kansas and there's a bigger following here than you might realize. Also, if the bowl game is in Texas, Kansas is closer.
If it comes to this, I think it could go either way depending on the bowl. Hopefully we get to seven wins and don't have to worry about it.

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
How does the big 10 get 2 BCS bids?
We need to win next week no questions asked. I don't want to go to Detroit.

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
There is no way the Big Ten get's two in the BCS. They may bring fans but that doesn't translate into viewers. Besides there will be a meltdown on capital hill is a 2 team loss gets chosen over an undefeated TCU/Bosie State team.

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
The Big Ten's 2 bids is just a guess, but unless an at large bid goes to the Big 12 it doesn't matter anyways. Just take the Big Ten's extra spot I listed and switch it with whatever BCS conference gets the bid.
By the way, I have TCU and Boise State in the BCS. They are the WAC and MWC BCS bids.

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
It might come down to OSU or Iowa for the other spot in the BCS spot for the Fiesta Bowl.

The Fiesta wants Iowa real bad. Because BCS games love teams that have lost 2 outta the last 3 at least.

Re: Analysis of the Bowl Situation
Looking at the B12 North, WHEN we win next week we will have second place in the B12 North locked up. Finishes:
NU 6-2, 9-3 or 5-3, 8-4 (depends on CU game)
ISU 4-4, 7-5
KSU 4-4, 6-6 (assuming loss at NU)
MU 3-5, 7-5 or 2-6, 6-6 (depends on KU game)
CU 2-6, 3-9 or 3-5, 4-8 (depends on NU game)
KU 1-7, 5-7 or 2-6, 6-6 (depends on MU game)
I know we lost the head to head with KSU but with a better overall record, I put us in second. Even if we lose at Missouri, we have fourth place guaranteed above KU and CU. Assuming KU loses to Texas, the best they finish is 2-6 in league and unless CU shocks OSU next week, their best finish is 3-5 but with both head to head loss and worse overall record.
KSU is not a good road team, they have lost every true road game, most by large margins. Their only "road" win was Arrowhead against us.

I don't care who we play or what Bowl game we play in as long as we play a BCS team.
