Audibles ?

Can AA call audibles? Several times in the second half, I saw #3 and/or #29 limping badly, but staying in the game. If I had seen this as a QB (or if the coaches see it and tell him to look for it), I would send Hamilton hard at them, cut, then go to the post, especially when they crowded the line.

I don't recall ever seeing him call an audible.

I noticed 29 also and thought he was going to come out but when he stayed in I wondered too if the coaches upstairs saw that in time. I was really surprised he didn't just lay on the ground and get an injury timeout.

For as much they were pressing Hamilton with no safety help I would have expected a stop and go at least once.

It was a surprise when #29 didn't come out of the game. I couldn't believe he stayed in the game. However, it was even more surprising that we didnt' seem to make any adjustments when #29 started limping badly. He had a big ankle brace for the 4th Q. Then #3 was limping and also had a big ankle brace.

We need all the help we can, so I hope somebody is watching for things like this in order to exploit them.

It seemed like the Missouri QB just made read after read at the line last year. 5 receivers on the line (one being Macklin) and almost impossible to stop them all when the QB can read the field rather than just run a play.

I don't know if they do or not. Thing is, we are suppose to have a fast-paced offense. I have seen little or no evidence of that this season.

Indeed, I expected us to look more like Missouri of last year, but it hasn't happened much. Perhaps all the passes to Josh Lenz during the Baylor game was an exception.

Also, what is with the unnecessary sideline checks on almost every play. It seems like we rush to get lined up, then step back to look at the sidelines, when we could be running a play before the defense is settled into their spots. Giving them 5 extra seconds to think about their defensive roles seems entirely contradictory to the speed potential you have with the spread. I've seen other teams do it also, but we seem to do it so often.

I recall an interview w/ Herman, possibly during camp, where he said that this offense is a ton of plays out of a minimal number of formations. They get lined up, with a play called. Herman (in the coaches box upstairs) looks at our called play vs the defensive formation, and checks into a different play (usually from the same formation) or keeps the original play on, depending on the defensive look. That's what the checks are.

I have noticed that when we get in the red-zone, we tend to go more to a true "hurry-up" than when we're in the open field.

Anyone who read the Register article last week knows that Arnaud is allowed to check to a different play if he sees it in the defense. Even after the play is called in from the sidelines. They were discussing the bubble screen and why we had not run it very much since Baylor.

As mentioned above, the goal is for a quarterback to have enough experience in this offense to make more checks later on down the road. Arnaud's injury really has hampered this.

This. And it should really **** off fans that going to Hamilton "worked" early in the game and that type of play was never attempted again all game long. It's really a no risk play, either Hamilton gets it or the ball is overthrown. With no safety rolling over, it's either big play or 2nd and 10.

I am not against Herman at all. I just am very perplexed by some of the calls and the overly conservative offensive gameplans we've seen the last few weeks. I know AA is not 100% yet but he's still making some good throws.

A spread offense, like we run, does not always mean you run a hurry up offense. The coaches have said he game and situation will dictate how quick we run the offense. The offense we run can either be quick or slow, but by going to the line quickly you limit the ability of the defense to make substitutions. We will run slower if we are trying to keep the opponents offense off the field.

For those trying to compare with Missouri from last year, remember Daniels was in the offense for several years before last year. I remember them saying earlier this year the Reesing was calling more of his own plays and audibles this years since he had been in the offense longer (apparently that is not working well). The more AA plays the better he will be at calling the audibles in this offense.
