Really, students are only there 4-5 years. That means almost none of them have seen a team that was bowl eligible. The ones of us in our early 30s are a little spoiled from the Sage/Seneca/Fizer/Tinsley eras. Its a new batch of college students, let them do whatever the hell they want for 6 wins.

This. I feel lucky that I was there during some winning years. They rushed the field after CO, because it was a big win for this programs future. We are bowl eligible, we have a new coach who won 6 games when most thought we would fail, and we had seniors who have been through the **** and deserve all of the gratitude possible.

Yes, we rushed the field because we beat a 3 win team OR maybe we rushed the field because we became bowl eligible for the first time in 4 freaking years. I know for one this is the first time we are going to a bowl game since I have been a student. Pretty big deal for me. Like someone else said, get over yourself.

I thought it was a big stretch to rush the field saturday. Glad to see the enthusiasm though, there are worse problems to have.

Re: Fales just said we make a habit of storming the field...
So you agree with Fales who is incorrect about how many times ISU fans rush the field?
His show is very poor and slanted towards Iowa. Very very poor ratings I presume . . no wonder.

Re: Fales just said we make a habit of storming the field...
Pretty sure (since I was at the game) it was the student section at Iowa that stormed the field on homecoming to celebrate with the players (I see no problem with that) and ISU fans who didn't storm the field on Saturday should be ashamed of themselves, being bowl eligible is a huge deal for that team right now

Re: Fales just said we make a habit of storming the field...
As the game came to the end on Saturday and the students went on the field to be with the team I said to my son, "take a look and place it into your memory about the site you are witnessing". Our whole family attended Iowa State and it was so good to see the students and football players in front of the band having fun. So often when we read about college students it involves things like breaking the law. This time it was a beautiful experience that ISU students will cherish for a lifetime. What a great day and to have someone try and put a damper on it shows the need to identify something negative; which is the lowest level of Lawrence Kohlberg's ethical development.

Did Iowa really rush the field against Michigan this year? Wow. Iowa rushed the field last year against us. I was blown away.

Re: Fales just said we make a habit of storming the field...
I thought it was pretty lame to rush the field for beating a 3 win game, bowl eligibility or not. Stay in the stands and let the players come to you.... Not only does it look better, but it allows the players to show a clear appreciation of the field.
Rushing the field should be reserved for beating a Top 5 team, that is it.

Re: Fales just said we make a habit of storming the field...
I really like going on the field after games. I think we should celebrate every win that way. I don't care what the hawks or anyone else does. I think it should become tradition for us to go on the field and say thanks and good job to the team after every home win.

Re: Fales just said we make a habit of storming the field...
Personally, I'm sick of these comments. All the time, all we hear is how bad we are, how much we suck, how much we don't deserve to be in the Big XII. It's constant backhanded comments about our status as a football program. Then when we win, we're supposed to act like we win all the time? WTF people, you can't bash us both ways. If we suck as bad as everyone says we do, then we should be storming the field every time we win. I'd say, over the last few years, it's pretty deserving when we storm the field. Personally, I think it's a nice tradition. Thank the players for the work they put in. Who cares if it makes us look Bush League, who doesn't already have that opinion of us anyways.

Ask anyone who rushed for our 1-win in '97 ... or the "Drew Tate" win ... or the Insight Bowl win.
Those are ingrained memories in the minds of fans that will be loyal forever in part because of the experience in their youth. It's really not about how we look to the old fans and the tv crowd (which it wasn't even on) - its about making new fans and having young fans become old fans.
