I know he has no chance what so ever to make the pros. Not tall enough and lacking speed needed at the next level but I think he brings some intangibles that has helped the D out this year. He will lead the BXII in tackles and I think should get some mention on the BXII All Conference teams. I dont think he gets first or second but should get honorable mention for his play. He was much maligned last year and I think he has proven a lot of people wrong with his play. I just want to say Thank you Jesse Smith. You made me proud to be a Cyclone FANatic.
His leadership, intensity and heart will be missed. Maybe he'll coach somewhere. He's a So. East Polk grad. so maybe he'll stick around here after graduating. Maybe he'll get a look in CN.
I second that. Although, I do think Smith will be 2nd team all-big 12. Great career, great player, and thank you Jesse and all the seniors for making the turn with this program. You will always be remembered for that.
He said after the Neb game that the coaches told them if they intercepted to just drop to the ground. I remember him pointing at McConnel to get down after his. A couple of minutes later he gets his own INT and drops like he was shot. What a classic move and demonstration of his "head" for the game. We will miss his leadership next year. What he lacked in talent he made up with that unknown quantity I wish all our guys had.
Kelin and Knott will step up in his absence next year. His senior leadership will most likely be missed, but I am excited about what those two guys can do next year in WB's 4-2-5 defense!
jesse is my favorite player on defense and could possibly be the smartest defensive player in the big 12. he led the conference in tackles but is undersized and isnt the fastest guy around, but he always know right where to be. i will miss jesse more than any of the other seniors
He's got an outside shot. He reminds me a lot of Zach Thomas. Half of playing LB is being in the right position to make plays. He certainly is a playmaker and certainly is coachable. Zach wasn't the biggest or fastest either.
Walking on water is easy. Just do it in December when it's frozen.

I read an article a while back that he will be student teaching PE this spring, then wants to coach and teach at the HS level next fall. I didn't even realize he was married until Senior Day, when they said he was being accompanied by his wife.
Jesse Smith , will make a great coach and mentor to any young person and I would love to see him back at Iowa State coaching someday or just stay around like Ben!! He is a smart ,hardworking ,and Humble team player !! He will succeed at life whatever he does!
