sorry to say this but we owe Chizek thanks
he brought a higher grade of player into the program, allowing us to go bowling this year. Rhoads is a better fit and a better coach, I just hope he can keep bring studs to Ames like Chiz did.

Alot of the players contributing greatly to our bowl run this year are McCarney's recruits, not Chiziks. Jesse Smith, Nate Frere, Austen Arnaud, Derrick Catlett, Marquis Hamilton, Alexander Robinson, etc. all McCarney recruits. Chizik did upgrade the talent on the offensive line I will give him credit for that.

I would turn it around and say we should thank Chizik for making recruiting the 1 thing that didn't completely regress during his two seasons.

Re: sorry to say this but we owe Chizek thanks
I say we forget about him altogether and move on. That goes for WJ and HB as well.

Wow...this has been discussed numerous times. Chizik may have saved recruiting from going under after the transition from Mac, but he most certainly did not improve it. Rhoads' first class is shaping up way better than Chizik could have ever done.

the talent level in the freshman and soph class is higher than ever.
I see us in a New years Day bowl before these kids are done.

Re: sorry to say this but we owe Chizek thanks
the chiz maybe did bring in a couple players but thts his job. CPR will do the same. Overall if you look at star ratings were further ahead now than the last few years!! Also the "higher grade talent" is like equity in your house or a bottle of fine wine. It does you no good unless you use it. Otherwise... 5-19

Re: sorry to say this but we owe Chizek thanks
How bout let's not trash the 1st and 2nd year players in this thread. Just something to throw out there, before this gets out of hand. All of the players that we currently have on our roster committed to and remain committed to Iowa State. Not Gene Chizik, or Dan McCarney or Paul Rhoads. So, let's embrace them all...

Thank Chiz for keeping the seat warm for PR. That is all.

If you can't see that Chizik did increase our talent pool, you just aren't able to look past your bias from the way he left. The biggest problem I see with our recruiting overall is that we continue to struggle to get kids that other BCS programs want. Our "star" rating might be better this year, but we aren't getting any more kids this year than other years that had offers from other top programs. What I think Chizik had a good eye for was talent that he identified before some of the other big schools did. Hopefully, Rhoads and staff will be able to do the same thing. ISU can become competitive with kids that are just a little too small or too slow for the bigtime offer if they're here for five years and are coached up. We just need to survive the next two years.

Re: sorry to say this but we owe Chizek thanks
Chiziks classes weren't rated any higher than the guy who preceeded him and he had about the same luck getting them on campus.
Wish there was a barf icon, because I'd be using it right now...

How did he improve it any more than the previous or current coach? Like I said, these players all have committed to ISU. And if they were here, solely because of Chizik, they would have left when he did. Nobody did, and there's your answer...
