Re: Heisman Finalists Just Announced
i'm not a Tebow fan, but his numbers are still prob "finalist" material. over 2700 passing yds, 30tds. 670 rushing yds and another 12 tds. not bad. I hope Suh wins it. if voters waited till the big 12 champ game, we will gain some votes.

I have NEVER seen a defense player be more singlehandedly responsible for their team's success than Suh. Ever. He deserves it, IMO.

Actually, I believe the "criteria" for awarding the Heisman is relatively vague. However, Tebow's 2009 stats are pretty impressive in my opinion:
Passing-
182-279 (65%)
2413 yards (186 per game and 13 per completion)
18 TDs
5 Ints
Rushing-
203 attempts
859 yards (66 per game and 4 per attempt)
13 TDs
So, to recap, he accounted for 3272 total yards and 31 TDs on a team that was ranked number 1 all season long and finished at 12-1. Tebow deserves to be a finalist.
Be prepared to be ****** off because Suh will not win the Heisman. Suh's stats by the way in 13 games:
82 tackles (50 solo and 32 assisted)
19.5 tackles for loss for 92 yards lost
12 sacks for 77 yards lost
10 passes broken up
19 QB hurries
1 forced fumble
1 interception
3 blocked kicks/punts

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

If these two points are the criteria then I don't believe that Suh would be ahead of Tebow. Tebow certainly influenced the game...he touched the ball on nearly every offensive play that Florida had during the season. Clearly he is a winner...just look at the W-L record of his team during his career.
Listen, I am not saying Tebow deserves to win it this year...but to say he is not in the conversation and should not have been invited is ridiculous.
I think Ingram might get it but I really don't think his was that "special" of a season.
The discussion of Suh came out of nowhere after the Big 12 championship with his throw-down of McCoy being replayed over and over.
Again, McCoy had a very good season but I don't know how "special" it was.
Gerhardt would probably be my choice but those west coast teams just do not get the pub needed in the east unless they are USC.
Gilyard from Cinci probably deserved to be in the finalist group.

When you look at the overall body of work that he had this year, and compare that to other years that he has had in his college football career, his numbers are not that great. His passing touchdowns have been cut almost in half and he didn't gain 1000 rushing yards. If you look back at his numbers from the year that he did win it, you will start to under stand why I don't believe that he should be there. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player...layerId=183484
I really thought that they were grooming him to be more of a pro-style qb, yet his average yards per completion have been consistently falling throughout his career. Yes he has been a great player, but I don't think that based on what he has done before that he should win it this year.
What does that say about the award when you can win it when you don't even have your best year statistically as a senior?

What does that say about the award when you can win it when you don't even have your best year statistically as a senior? This is Tebow's biggest problem...living up to his incredible stats over the past two years prior to this season. He has set the bar for himself incredibly high.
If you just look at this year's stats and do not compare them to his prior two seasons (especially that unbelievable sophomore season)...I believe they still warrant him being a finalist because he was on the number one team in the country for the entire season and they are incredible stats. It is amazing that a kid can account for 3200 yards and 31 TDs and be considered to have had a "not that great" year.
You don't want to give it to him this year because this year has not been as good as his other years from a statistical standpoint, yet most argue that this award is not a "lifetime achievement" award. In my opinion, you can't use his other years to knock his current year if you aren't going to give him credit for those other years as well.
Maybe it says you had a better team this year than the year you won the award and had more weapons to distribute the ball to.
The bottom line is that Tebow is one of, if not the, best college football players ever.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
