DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
ISU football: Can't go to the Cyclones' bowl? Buy a ticket, anyway | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register
"Iowa State is responsible for selling at least 10,500 tickets. That's one reason Pollard suggested buying tickets even if fans are not going to the game."
Interesting Quote
Make the world a better place, punch a hawkeye in the face
Colorado coach Gary Barnett "I thought we had a pretty good mascot. But when we showed up at Iowa State and they had a real tornado, that's the real deal." November 12, 2005 -
Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
Something similar was referenced in a similar thread earlier today.
If correct, this is saying the AD agreed to pay for 10,500 tickets. If so, this guarantee may help explain how we jumped MO. It also may explain the $30 bowl fee (cover overage)
Who knows.

Let's call a spade a spade here. That's freaking embarrassing for everyone involved with ISU. I hope this doesn't get picked up nationally.

Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
So basically, Pollard made a promise he's not sure he can keep so he is asking Cyclone fans to cover his rear...

I can promise you one thing, If I wasn't going to the game, no way in HELL would I buy tickets. I doubt many others would.

Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
Hope what doesn't get picked up? Asking people to buy tickets, even if they can't go? Happens all the time and the tickets are donated to charities, military personnel, etc.. I have seen some comments from ISU fans that like the idea, because they can't afford the trip; but they can afford a ticket of two for charity and to help ISU.

Honestly, if we can't get 11K to go to our bowl game....we should not be going anywhere IMO. Economy or NOT!
Boom.....transfer the karma -

You don't want to donate a ticket or two, then don't. People get so worked up about things that don't impact them in any way, shape or form. Very puzzling.

Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
Every college does this for bowl games, Iowa did it in 2002 for the Orange Bowl, I think someone even commented on this in a post on the website. Remeber 1,000,000 Iowans live in AZ.

Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
I think too much is being read into this. *BOTH* Iowa State and Minnesota were given 10,500 tickets that it is their responsibility to sell. It doesn't mean they will and it doesn't mean a promise was made. End of story.

Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
That's pretty embarrassing. Actually, it's really embarrassing.
If he didn't think he could sell that many tickets, I can't understand how he thinks it's a viable option to ask people who aren't going to buy tickets just because.
Guess what, Jamie. The reason that people aren't going is $$, so to ask them to subsidize everyone else's fun is amateur hour at it's best.
If I'm watching on TV, do I really give a rip what the bowl location is?
Sometimes he leaves me scratching my head.

I am buying tickets and I am not going to the game, is $55 the only price you can get?

The 10,500 is just what ISU needs to sell, many ISU fans are buying through other sources as well. I have no doubt that we'll see close to 20,000 fans there for the bowl.

Re: DMR Article "Can't go to the game, buy a ticket"
Once again showing that ISU fans expect Texas results on UNI money. Buck up and go to the game or don't complain when we can't compete with Oklahoma State.
